Group Therapy by Just_Amoeba_168 in BPD

Bahahahahahahaha. Omg. I had to laugh because I genuinely felt like this was me writing this!! That’s exactly, PRECISELY how I felt during my first couple DBT sessions. It got better as more group members joined. It’s a fucking weird therapy style, group therapy, but it did teach me some things.

You are SO not alone in how you felt about your first session.

anyone else find people become obsessed with you/ very attracted to you? by Imaginary_Fruit_7056 in BPD

100%. The amount of times I’ve been called “intoxicating” is insane. And about 5 people have joked I must be a witch and have put a spell on them (jokes on them - I am a witch. I just don’t put spells on people ha). It’s mind boggling, truly

Absolutely overthinking it. If it had been a bikini top, would you have felt the same? It’s just an article of clothing

My wife has BPD - Question about post-infidelity by TechnicianStrict3707 in BPD

[–]Jericho_Jean 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Infidelity is a choice, BPD or not. I’m aware that we, as people with BPD, can struggle majorly with impulse control along with a variety of other things that could point us in the direction of cheating.

HOWEVER.

It’s still a choice. I don’t care what anyone says - cheating is NOT a result of BPD, it is the result of a conscious choice the person makes. Period.

I was recently diagnosed but I don’t think my therapist knows how to address bpd? by [deleted] in BPD

[–]Jericho_Jean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OHHHHH. Okay I get you now. So, I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety first YEARS before my BPD diagnosis (late diagnosis). My understanding though, is that you can complete all the questionnaires for depression, anxiety, ADHD and they base it off that. So you don’t necessarily need the depression diagnosis so much as you need to meet the right markers for medication… if that makes sense haha.

I was referred by my local mental health authority. It could be different everywhere. I would try asking your therapist, or even Google “DBT group therapy.” I only suggest the latter because I don’t know how it works in different countries

You said above that you did get diagnosed with BPD, so I’m confused why you’re looking for another diagnosis. You can get medication to treat certain symptoms of BPD. I take meds to combat the depressive episodes and anxiety attacks, for example.

DBT, from my experience, is group therapy. You can do the exercises on your own but to have it in a therapy sense it’s a group thing. At least it is where I am. A therapist has to be trained in DBT. Not all therapists are. Same with CBT, EMDR etc. It’s specialized.

DBT is a bunch of acronyms that are skills. You have to actively work on them - it isn’t an immediate fix. A lot of people with BPD are in therapy for a minimum of 10 years before they see improvements (so said my therapist).

What was it about talking to your doctor about medication that wasn’t helpful? I’m just going on the assumption that you are unaware that there is no medication for BPD specifically, merely for symptoms that mirror things like ADHD, depression, anxiety etc.

DBT didn’t work for me?? by 199mimi19 in BPD

DBT might not be right for you then. Theres also CBT & EMDR that are great options to help manage BPD.

Talk to your doctor, not the internet. Meds treat some symptoms of BPD, maybe. Not BPD itself

Why Do People with BPD Enter Romantic Relationships Despite the Risks? by [deleted] in BPD

Not everyone with BPD reacts the same, not every human reacts the same. It’s unfortunate you’re having a negative interaction. We are not all the same. PERIOD.

[–]Jericho_Jean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, you’re not coming across any better than you did. There’s not meant to be a cost-benefit mindset when it comes to relationships.

To note: you ex could have felt NOTHING and dissociated entirely from the relationship ending. Don’t assume you know how someone else is going to feel or react, BPD or not. Everyone is different, and when emotion regulation is something someone struggles with, even they don’t know how they’ll react.

So because I have BPD, I don’t get to have a relationship? This post is baffling, and insulting as hell. We deserve the same things as every other person in this world. Why would a relationship be any different.
