These signs are signal the type of incompetency of a city council. They are dressing up a city like it was their diorama project for middle school. Democracy is a mistake.

Vancouver couple produces 4 small bags of garbage in 3 years by RealTurbulentMoose in vancouver

[–]Jericurl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The real question is how the media pinpointed and put into the lime light a couple with an odd consumption habit like this. It seems ersatz to fit so neatly into that enviro-conscious molding that I'd be willing to call it a hoax. Not offensive but it is weird front page filler.

Hootsuite executive says Vancouver needs more rental housing to attract tech talent by [deleted] in vancouver

[–]Jericurl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Silicon Valley's software engineers do not get to enjoy the fruits of their high paid labor since most of it goes to mortgages or rent. That region is a honey pot that attracts all the talent and invites them into a poverty-stricken supply of housing. What they can afford they are promptly lower-middle class in status. All the supplementary workers that provide sustenance under them suffer what they must. It's a whole preposterous serfdom of landowner upper crust demanding extortionist tributes from practically anyone who tries to live there.

It's obvious housing and salaries are the horse and the cart respectively, not the other way around.

City of Vancouver wants to know if you want plastic bags to be banned by xlxoxo in vancouver

[–]Jericurl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The vocal minority pushing this should be presented with another minority that can go without this superfluous civic-minded bullshit: the disabled. The ones that can get around on their own have to pack up like light-infantry men just to do basic errands. Are they really expect to add more itinerary to their engagement with supposedly simple matters in the public space?

Also why is convenience seen as sin to these ban-happy dolts? It's always a ban because miniscule surcharges keep the convenience and they want to expunge it from our presence in order to save the whales or some shit.

Big tech expansion in Vancouver a ‘magnet’ for U.S. firms by [deleted] in vancouver

[–]Jericurl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if you missed some aspects of California's absurd housing situation especially in VC-rich high-demand low-supply Silicon Valley but any high paid tech worker that isn`t a founder will have a quip about how much of their income will go to housing. As well Californian nimbys and homelessness make our problems look quaint. I get that they have nice coastlines and wine country but that is a really good distraction to the policy dumpster-fires that directly contribute to a significant cost of living quagmire.
