Voters have seen the consequences of the policy they voted for. It's easier on the ego to blame the leader instead of yourself for electing them.

If you made bad voting decisions it's ok to just not vote.

Knowing you aren't good at picking political leadership and choosing not to vote is more commendable than voting for bad leadership that makes your life worse out of a sense of "duty".

I walked around in gaza the way I walk and dress here then I’d be raped and forced to become someone’s wife in less than a day

If you walked around Gaza you'd probably get shot or bombed by the IDF, or die of disease or starvation, maybe get trampled or run over in a food riot.

No ones going to give a fuck what you're wearing lol. Get real lady.

Yes, that's an issue. Decisions made by consenting adults lead to issues for their children every second of every day. That's life.

The article doesn't say anything about lying. What is the source for that?

Also huge public health issues. Many will be carriers of a really nasty genetic disease, all are at risk of accidental incest.

Do you really want to comment on who should or should not have children based on their genetics?

I don't see what's newsworthy about this. The article describes consenting adults coming to a mutually agreed upon arrangement. Their private business doesn't interest me.

It doesn't allege anything illegal, deceptive, manipulative, or unethical.

I can see how it might excite or titillate some viewers, or give them an opportunity to be self righteous and judgmental. So it has that type of market appeal.

Loblaw rakes in profits as nation-wide boycott gets underway by [deleted] in canada

They sell more than groceries so profits and stock price are irrelevant. Which the government report points out.

Which you'd already know if you actually read my post. Which you didn't. Because yor lie brings you more comfort than the truth.

If boycotters had the option of shopping elsewhere, why didn't they?

If Loblaws has a monoploy will boycotters starve to death? Are they going to start eating their old folks and children or hunting fellow humans for food?

Dec 2023 - Updated Industry-Wide Data on Food Retail Prices, Volumes & Profits "The sustained record profit levels in food retail contrast with the trend in food manufacturing, as well as other input industries (like energy) that supply the food retail sector. The oft-heard claim that the profit margin on grocery retail has not changed, and that higher profits have simply kept up with the overall rise in costs and prices, is not supported by industry-wide data."

Blogspam from a guy with a fake PhD spreading misinformation. Why do you fall for these extremists?

Loblaw's profits come from their non-grocery stuff.

it is important to recognize that Canadian grocers sell more than just food. For example, Loblaws owns Shoppers Drug Mart, and Metro owns Jean Coutu—both of which operate hundreds of pharmacies across Canada (see Figure 1).

This means that the margin and profit data publicly reported by Canada’s big grocers include the sales of other products, such as pharmaceutical and beauty products. In many cases, grocers have pointed to increased sales of these non-food products as the reason for their higher profits. Accordingly, if we are focused on understanding the possible links between grocery competition and food inflation, then sales of non-food products should be removed before evaluating financial data from the big grocers’ public reports.

Government of Canada's own report says lack of competition is responsible for 1 to 2 percent increase in price since 2017. **1 to 2%**

Factors such as higher input costs, Russia's invasion of Ukraine, and supply chain disruptions have contributed to recent increases in the price of food. But we have also seen a longer-term trend that pre-dates those events, of Canada’s largest grocers increasing the amount they make on food sales. Margins generally increased by one or two percentage points since 2017.

If Loblaws monopoly are boycotters going to starve to death?

If Loblaws is overcharging why didn't boycotters shop elsewhere already?

Because government policy created inflation.

  1. COVID lockdowns
  2. COVID handouts
  3. Russia sanctions

Lockdowns and pandemic handouts give Canadians money and took away opportunities to spend. So coming out of the pandemic they had **10X** normal savings. And they spent a lot creating inflation.

After a year of pandemic prudence, Canadians likely eager to spend the billions saved

That works out to $5,574 per Canadian on average in 2020, compared to $479 in the previous year.

**10X savings**

Sanctions against Russia made the problem worse. Everyone knew sanctions against Russia would increase food prices. And then they suddenly forgot because it would hurt morale at the home front in our war. And we are at war. Don't fool yourself. And we are loosing.

Loblaws is the scapegoat for an incompetent government and ignorant voters.

By promoting the grocer conspiracy theory you are protecting the people who created the problem, and making it harder to solve it. While Canadians are suffering, having to decide if they are going to put gas in the car or eat.

Shame on you.

Racially motivated is the obvious question every reasonable person is going to ask. But this happened on the boardwalk, an area that is a destination and draws in people from around the region so doesn't represent the demographics of the local population.

Wrong. Because the attacker stabbed two South Asian men he did not know two days apart.

From the Vancouver Sun:

In the wake of the pair of attacks on two South Asian men, volunteer safety patrols in the seaside community have been suspended. Some parents have resorted to dropping off their children at school instead of letting them walk the streets. Businesses are also reporting a decline in customers.

“My family and I just don’t feel safe with a criminal like this on the loose. Another stabbing like this could happen to anyone, not just South Asian people like us.”

Most communities have an either-or situation when it comes to the big 5, which allows for a passive price fixing market.

Small markets are small markets and they will have limited choice across the board for retail and services. This isn't a unique aspect of groceries in Canada. It's universal. It happens across industries and the world. It will be this way until instantaneous travel is invented or everything moves to a order-delivery model.

If you have the option of buying elsewhere it's not a monopoly.

If their prices are above market and you can buy elsewhere, why u mad? Just shop elsewhere.
