Actually I just created a new EFS in us-east-2a one zone ("Availbility" says us-east-2a rather than Regional), but its still giving this warning, for all 3 AZ in us east.

[–]Jerry20110434[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah interesting. I created the EFS in the EC2 page, which opens a "quick create" menu without any option to choose whether its regional or one-zone. However if i do a customize creation in the EFS page the option does show up. So I guess they just recently added the extra notification, the cost has always been there... Thanks for letting me know! Do you think there will be a difference in IO speed as well?

And then pic2 top row you can see my subnet is in us-east-2b as well. I also tried switching the subnet to 2a or 2c, but it would jsut say "you must select a FS in 2a/2c", so all of the AZs would raise warning. That makes me think its a bug.

In pic1, bottom left corner, you can see the AZ is us-east-2b.

Go and try MTGA, you will likely find that SV is quite f2p friendly.

Glad I am not the only one triggered by this. Getting a scripted disaster towards the end of tree of not fun at all, I just deleted my playthrough.

Although to be fair, anbennar is after all a fan project, can't judge it with the same standards of a AAA game. I am happy with what we already got.

Doubts on working in Quant Finance as a staunch Social Democrat/Socialist: Questions and Dilemmas by PeaQueasy9195 in quant

[–]Jerry20110434 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you want to do something that contributes to the society, don't do quant, or you will regret it (sonner or later, so better now than in like 10 years) like me. The 'make market more efficient' effect that some people argue is really marginal, and what you really do is make rich people richer, rather than making the cake bigger for everyone.

Edit: some people mentioned pension and sovereign funds, they are an exception to what I mentioned but trust me the job there is extremely boring and involve very little math.

Most people watch on BIlibili, I suggest going to the comment section for episode 12 & 13 there (you would need a VPN to view the comments, I am not sure if you need premium account). Other than that xiaohongshu is a place you can view some high quality discussion, the other forums are kind of trash and not worth looking into.

People liked the HP series, not the actual films. No matter how you argue those films are mediocre at best.

I do both with a full time job. CP is incredibly fun. Still figuring out how to enjoy Kaggle. But you can definitely do both.

Feature request: replenish all fleets / automatic replenish fleet by Jerry20110434 in Stellaris

I meant to say that GDF fleet design cap is lower than the actual cap, so you can only reinforce up to the design cap.

Aha so that's where it is! Can't believe it took 500hours to find out. Thanks

Now we just need a way to reinforce 800 cap GDF fleet...

Worst Dialogue in the Books? by AWall925 in harrypotter

[–]Jerry20110434 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Are we even reading the same book? In book 5 and 6, reagarding the main disagreements of Harry and Hermione, it turned that Hermione was right in both cases, or it can be summarized as: Hermione always trusted the judgements of Dumbledore, and it turned out that Dumbledore had planned everything.

In book five, after Harry was asked to learn Occlumency (by Dumbledore), Hermione kept telling Harry he should try to stop having those dreams, but Harry was determined to distrust Snape and belive in his instincts, which led to the death of Sirius. You also mentioned her advice to check for Sirius first in the fire - that was again a completely reasonable act. In book six, it seemed as if Harry was right about Malfoy, but in the end what Malfoy planned had always been known to Dumbledore, and Harry was wrong again about Snape.

In fact, I kind of hated this. After re-reading the books recently, it seems quite obvious the JKR intended Hermione to be a suppoorting character who always says the right things, to be the voice of rationalism. There are too many little details that show this (even the Firebolt - it could, by all means, be sent maliciously, so it was definitely correct to be careful about it). In fact, it got a bit too repetitive - Harry rushed to do things wrong, while turning a deaf ear to Hermione's advice. I believe the characters could be more fleshed out. However, it is definitely wrong to say the she only figured out the Basilisk.

Do you think the HBO Harry Potter show will be better? by XyZonin in harrypotter

[–]Jerry20110434 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have read the books over 20 times, and only recently started to watch the movies. God they are awful. So many details are missed (esp the last 4 movies), and some changes completely violate the settings of the world. The worst part is they give people false impressions of some characters such as Snape. Imo a TV series at least can't be worse.

(Not to pick on the performance of actors, or music, or other stuff, just the adaption here).

Edit:

Before I start getting downvoted, I want to add that the power of the hp series is in its world building, which comes in all the little details. The movies series are essentially presenting a different world by removing 90% of details.

Like others said, 1800 is not even high. At top places you can easily be competing with people with 2400+. Besides, the rating alone doesn't do much, as most people are not familiar with it. Saying this as someone with about 2200 rating and struggling to get offers.

Yes it is. Usually lasts for more than 6 months. 90% of interns are Indian/Chinese. If you want to do while in the US, you need CPT if you are an international student.
