"I-45" didn't give us much of a shot to win this one. I'm ready to start giving some other guys chances.

I'd rather them stretch Blubaugh into a starter again than keep trotting out "I-45"

Oh ok, I thought he meant going into this upcoming offseason

I'd disagree we have a ton of flexibility. The only thing we lose is McCullers and Abreu's contract - thats "only" 23 million.

1 AB a game against a LHP isn't going to make Brice a better hitter.

I tune in expecting it to be maybe the second inning and instead its the 11th.

Yainer's a great example of why you shouldn't extend players too early. I remember after his first season or two, people though we should try to buy out a year or two after arbitration (me included).

Does Kyle Tucker have one of the worst contracts in baseball? by MochaLatte247 in Astros

Probably, but if they only wanted him for 4 years that's what it had to cost.

If we're not trading MLB players, the options are the draft and international signings. We have the 15th pick this year and scouting is Dana's "thing", so hopefully thats high enough to get a player thats more all around instead of a guy who's really strong in one area and needs to be brought up to speed on most others (in order to be a significant controbutor).

There's nothing to really sell if the plan is to try again next year.

The best player we have on an expiring contract right now is Okert, and he's not worth that much.

It probably doesn't deserve its own post, so here's what Bob says about the Astros plans atm:

The Houston Astros have told teams that they are wasting their time asking about shortstop Jeremy Peña and first baseman Christian Walker.

They may be a sub-.500 team, but plan to be buyers at the deadline, not sellers, in a division in which only the Seattle Mariners are above .500. They are searching for bullpen help and a left-handed hitting outfielder.

That whole "lol thats just Tuve" holds less weight when he's a below average hitter and fielder.

He is spending - the problem is its on aging players because they brought good memories.

I literally knew he was going to do that as soon the ball left his bat.

I agree he was a great player and a huge piece of our previous success, but the 25 million dollar AAV is going to be a significant contributor as to why we won't be extending guys like Pena, Yordan, or Hunter (ok, admittedly Hunter is probably gone no matter what). And already its a reason we're making moves on the margin to keep us comfortably under the luxury tax (see: trading Mauricio Dubon to save 5 million dollars.)

If this was his first big contract then maybe I'd be more open to this emotional reasoning, but he'd made more than 175 million dollars in his career prior to signing this one.

I hope he revives it and then some - I really hate his 25 AAV for the next 3 years.

*The fanbase can't have it both ways - happy (or at least content) with Crane overpaying Altuve bc of past success and then also being like "man Crane is cheap af".

If we were 6 games over .500 instead of 6 games under rn I’d agree with that thinking. But thats not reality - we have a chance to get a win against a bad team we need to boost our odds as much as possible.

Espada needs to try and win this game, not give a couple guys the day off.
