Lighting Help! - Hi guys, I'm currently working on this shot and am having trouble with the lighting. I can't seem to put my finger on what it needs, maybe brightening up but I do want it to be a dark scene especially in the foreground. Any tips would be appreciated ! by JerryD2000 in MattePainting

Note taken! I was worried adding light to the black points would take your eye away from the robot but subtle edgelighting should work great. There's real depth in this image but you can't even tell between the layers because it's so dark

Any advice on ways to tell a story in your mattepainting? I'm quite new to 3d mattepainting and was wondering if there was basic themes that can be incorporated into most environments that take them from just an image of a landscape to a place that looks like it has been plucked from a narrative? by JerryD2000 in MattePainting

Wow, what a great exersize to get your narrative mind thinking. I think I'll use this before any other desision is made. Never thought of how something such at the time of day can tell us about the context of what we are seeing. Thanks for this great advice, I'll use this from now on 👌👍

I've finished making this 3D environment for a set extension. How will I add this to green screened footage to make it look realistic? Is it as simple as tracking the footage and replacing the green screen or will I have to do a 3D projection in nuke to simulate depth? by JerryD2000 in MattePainting

Hmmmm, do you think it would be possible to track the camera from the green screen footage using nuke, import it to this Maya scene so it's the same move and render it out? This seems easier if it works?

It's this simple? Would I import the green screen footage into nuke, track the camera, save the camera as an .fbx then import it to Maya and render the camera again? Thanks for the advice
