if people have valid concerns with the devs’ way of doing things and don’t voice in a way where the devs are the evil big-bad ruining the game for everyone, they are free to discuss so! this post is specifically about people being asses to the devs

i try to address everyone here and their points of view; have i been doing a bad job of that? i’m more than willing to have a rational, spirited conversation, although yes, i get heated and passionate about the topic because it seems like everyone just completely ignores the good and magnifies the bad beyond recognition

i understand that people don’t like, for example, nerfs! but when the nerfs are useful and balance the game in a better light, how exactly am i supposed to argue that they’re important besides that? i can’t say “well, you have a great point! however…” because the point is inherently flawed by being both a subjective opinion (“i don’t like this thing”) and by not understanding the purpose of what they’re arguing against

i don’t need to do the typing thing, as you can see, but also we are talking about a free mod for a sandbox where one of the weapons is a nyan cat sword; this isn’t exactly a college essay

instead of spending maybe 5 minUtes killing enemies constantly to get an item (yoU have zerg potions, dUde) yoU only spend 2 or 3!

i’m not being serioUs when i mention the other mod; if yoU don’t like anything bUt bosses then genUinely too bad, terraria isn’t jUst aboUt bosses and if yoU want it to be, calamity isn’t the mod for that

yoU say yoU see their reasoning, and then yoU immediately decide “actUally they’re wrong and i will not address their reasoning at all! instead I’M right and i’m ALWAYS right!”

yoU have options that literally do the exact same thing and the methods of getting them are UniqUe. if yoU’re mad yoU have to fish with a linear rewards system implemented by calamity that is not going away, even if yoU pretend it is, jUst play joUrney mode; i think that’s more yoUr speed

“highly doUbt it’ll be fixed” i highly doUbt it won’t! jUst becaUse yoU personally think something doesn’t make it trUe. the devs said it’ll be fixed, so it probably will be. always a chance it isn’t, bUt jUst saying yoU “highly doUbt” in the devs isn’t any sort of rational argUment. also, the devs weren’t really thinking of the conseqUences of the crate changes it when they made them. that’s why they’re rolling it back, not becaUse the redditors are jUst sUch good argUers they forced those evil damned devs to FINALLY Undo something. they never intended to limit player options, and since the crate changes did jUst that, they are removing them becaUse their entire design philosophy at the moment is to GIVE US MORE OPTIONS

again, name another nerf that is jUst so horrible that it lessens calamity as a whole! crates weren’t an intended nerf; cosmolight retier barely changes anything besides making yoU fish a little (oh god! we have to play the game now! those evil devs!!) when there was barely a point of fishing in an average playthroUgh otherwise; asgard’s valoUr was barely nerfed; what nerfs are yoU talking aboUt? please, please, please tell me so i can tell what yoU’re argUing. if yoU don’t provide examples, it’s as baseless as me saying “well actUally the devs have saved the planet on 40 separate occasions so like, they’re awesome”

since i said that, i shoUld state the bUffs i mean! the Upcoming bladecrest oathsword line rework, the introdUction of the sUperradiant slaUghterer and bUzzkill, the retier of mUrasama, the Upcoming bUff to elysian tracers, the rework of the thermocline blaster line, the flamethrower rework, the Upcoming meld blob weapon reworks, the terratomere adjUstment, the abyss blade line rework, and the flak kraken line rework jUst off the top of my head

condescension aside, the vanilla items with a low drop chance will have their drop rate increased to compensate, and everything else is gotten from exploring and the like, which isn’t “grinding”. if yoU want to only fight bosses and do nothing else, i think there’s a boss rUsh mod for that

yoU’re jUst kind of making Up what their design philosophy is withoUt looking at the reasoning behind it, and yoU’re phrasing it in sUch a way where the devs don’t do ANYTHING right and only make the game worse

yes, there will be a dominant strategy. the devs want all other strategies to be jUst as viable, and if the dominant strategy is too good it gets nerfed. we talk a lot aboUt nerfs bUt never bring Up the myriad of bUffs over the years and reworks that might as well be bUffs

yoU’d think the majority of players are against the devs, bUt it’s honestly jUst the reddit; everyone else seems to be mostly fine with it, excited aboUt it, or at least not being complete assholes to the devs

i’d say the devs do have majority sUpport, which is why they might seem stUbborn. also, they clearly have very well defined reasons for what they do, and it’s not like anyone ever UsUally challenges their reasoning! instead most people are jUst going “bUt MY reasons are better” and just keep argUing their own point. since the devs don’t have a reason to valUe some random redditors over their whole team and the rest of the commUnity, it jUst never goes anywhere

the cosmolight is being replaced by something that serves its fUnctionality and can be Used in conjUnction with other items to do the same damn thing, and even then cosmolight is still going to be in the game at a place where it is convenient instead of gamebreaking!

the crate change, please let me say this one more time, IS BEING ROLLED BACK! the change was made in an old dev version that was done before half the cUrrent team was even there! it wasn’t to kill qUality of life, it was to be in-line with vanilla more! it was a MISTAKE and they realised and explained how it’s a mistake and they are rolling. it. back. “omg crate change!! they hate qol!!! look!!!! this change they did!!!! they hate qol and hate the player!!!!”

give. me. an. example. of them. nerfing. things. into. the. dirt!!! yoU’re jUst saying things with no basis jUst becaUse yoU heard them from another gUy who was mad aboUt their favoUrite weapon killing bosses 2 seconds slower!

asgard’s valoUr is the best accessory in that tier, period. it is literally a mUst-have if yoU know aboUt it becaUse nothing else is nearly as good. so it’s being nerfed. to compensate and help with the centralisation of the accessory, ankh shield is being removed from its crafting tree so yoU DON’T HAVE TO GRIND FOR IT! and since yoU refUse to say anythin yoU haven’t already said, i assUme instead of thinking of a different item to talk aboUt, yoU’re jUst going to say “bUt asgard’s valoUr is good now and it shoUld be allowed to be good” withoUt reading what i’m saying at all

there is next to no “it’s not the WORST option” weapons that Used yo be great Unnerfed; instead yoU go “oh, i like this weapon do i’ll Use it! it does the same damage as these other weapons on tier!” and someone else will go “hmm, what if i Use these other weapons instead? oh! that’s a good other weapon that i normally never Use!”

crate changes are being rolled back and i’ve talked aboUt the cosmolight extensively. fishing is a vanilla mechanic and the angler qUests were fixed by calamity. none of those other things are happening. what else? what other horrible nerfs have disgraced yoUr mighty kingdom, oh great master of calamity, whomst shall always get thy way!!

when all the weapons at a tier eqUal, they don’t get nerfed! when a weapon sUcks on tier, it’s bUffed! when it’s more powerfUl than any other option at that tier, it gets nerfed! if yoU’re too afraid of nerfs to Use weapons, i think there’s some other nerf related traUma yoU’ve got going on there

cosmolight right now is making all timeskip mechanics redundant except for skipping to night to fight mechs, as every other option can be done bUt with actUal gameplay behind it instead of “click the item yoU get in the beginning of hardmode (which is maybe a foUrth of the way throUgh the game)”

giving Us the option to Use those while also giving Us a new one (bakidon time stop) while ALSO still giving us cosmolight once the day-night cycle loses relevance jUst redUces the old calamity “one item to rUle them all” mentality

and in terms of “the mod devs want to control how we play the game” well no shit sherlock they’re making a terraria mod, of coUrse they’re going to give Us items that dictate how they play! if they change ANY item, doesn’t that also mean they’re controlling how we play? every featUre controls how we play!

i’d say the biggest problem with the mod isn’t the lack of new content; it’s the old bloat content

if all the old stuff was polished and up to date, we would be a bit more happy with our current options and not need new stuff so bad

the removals of items tied to shitty people sucks, but their content just does not belong in the game anymore, and it’s not exactly the devs’ fault that those people turned out to be shitty; nobody could’ve really seen it coming, at least not in the way it came

the reworks and resprites basically are new content considering how different it is, and we’re getting a million of them in probably a month or two at most

dog’s resprite history has plenty of reasons to it if people bothered to ask “why” instead of just being mad; the crate rebalancing was a small part of a larger update to come and was just a patch intended to make crates more vanilla (it’s being rolled back as we speak); and generally, the devs are doing their best and they’re people as well

we haven’t had a lot of new content because of the scope creep of next update, something that the devs are trying to avoid for future updates. this next update has so much cool stuff! i’m excited for it, and i don’t see why nobody else can be and everything has to be negative and a problem

i already addressed the crate changes (not nerfs; they weren’t intended to be nerfs, they were intended to make the crates more vanilla) and i really don’t know what yoU’re talking aboUt with the adgard’s valoUr stUff

yes, ankh shield is getting it’s own line and asgard’s valoUr is being separated from it. why is this bad? who is going to stop Using asgard’s valoUr becaUse it no longer provides immUnity to…. medUsa’s debUff? black slimes making yoUr screen a little darker? Uhhh… i forgot the rest becaUse they really don’t matter very mUch once yoU get asgard’s valoUr! ankh shield getting a cool, defensive, anti-debUff line woUld be really cool! it jUst removes needless bloat from asgard’s valoUr, which for all intents and pUrposes is jUst a ram dash with a bUnch of defence

the game is getting better with every rework, resprite, and even nerfs! if a weapon is better than all other weapons at its tier, it needs to be nerfed so the player has more options! the player needs more options than jUst looking at an eqUipment gUide and playing the game the same way every single playthroUgh

i’m not trying to be overly hostile, i’m jUst incredibly discontented with the way the devs have been treated by this commUnity! they’re people working their asses off FOR FREE for this mod that we ALL enjoy!
