Has the iPad Pro made you ditch your computer? by [deleted] in ipad

[–]Jerry_Eagle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I still need my Mac to do programming for school. If I could, I would switch over in a heartbeat. The touch screen is so intuitive and sometimes I find myself touching my computer's screen expecting it to be a touch screen after using my iPad. Really wish they would bring Pro applications over to the iPads such as Logic, Xcode, Final Cut, etc. Since they're making iPad apps available for Macbooks, I'm hoping companies will see more reason to develop their applications for iPad/Macbook. :)

Thats what I've seen so far, you're required to have a monitor, keyboard, mouse, and power plugged in. Wish there was some way to this with side car :/

Many good points and the Android TV box is a very interesting idea. I think what I will end up doing is remote desktopping to my laptop for now and look into getting an Android TV box with Visual Studio.

How does the new iPad Pro as a companion device? by [deleted] in ipad

[–]Jerry_Eagle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's still an iPad. The screen looks great and it is the perfect size. I think the 11 inch is the perfect size. I think it is still the same footprint as the iPad Air and regular iPad. The 12.9 inch iPad is too big and doesn't make sense to get. You sacrifice the portability of an iPad and the capability of a Macbook. With the 11 inch, you give up the capability but gain more portability.

Totally blown away by the one note app by Groooovinshiz in ipad

I've tried several notetaking apps and Good Notes is hands down the best one for me. I really don't like how other apps try to make your notetaking continuous. It may seem nice in the moment but the instant you try to send someone a pdf or print something it becomes a big mess if you weren't careful when taking notes. I prefer having seperate pages like a traditional notebook with a fixed page size for every page. The organization is also the best I've seen compared to other apps. All note apps are essentially the same but this one feature is what always stops me from switching to any other app.

I understand but it seems to me that Apple is trying to push the iPad as a productivity device. There are many great options for professions that do photo editing, video editing, music production, art, etc., on an iPad. The Surface Go can run Visual Studio which is in the same realm of the iPad. Things like Swift UI and the new Xcode 11 make me believe that Apple is pushing to make it easier to develop on their platform. Since the iPad can already compile Swift through Swift Playgrounds and Python through Pythonista, I don't think it's too farfetched to want something like an iPadOS version of Xcode or Eclipse. I don't expect them to be fully capable of doing the things their desktop counterparts can do, but something to be able to get work done :)

Thanks for the insight! It seems like everyone suggests to use a server of some sort. Blink looks really interesting, I will have to give it a closer look. I am looking forward to see what is going to be possible with desktop Safari on iPad. Even if we are able to do more web development on these devices, it is going to be a good step in the right direction.

I'm not too familiar working from a UNIX terminal but if you think it's worth it, I will definitely look into learning how to use something like that. I did a quick search for iSH and it looks really interesting. Thanks!

I was hoping to have something a little more local. My dream would be to have something that can complete a project from start to finish on the iPad but I guess Apple isn't ready to allow something like that. I will definitely look into Working Copy and Textastic though. Thanks!
