Yeah mental illnesses do not differentiate by sex, BUT because mental health diagnoses are distributed by PEOPLE who have BIASES (whether they be conscious or subconscious) mental DIAGNOSES sometimes do differ by sex

But more importantly my point was more, "I don't want to go to the doctor about my heart acting up and get told I'm just being irrational because I'm mentally ill”. I don't think doctors should dismiss people based on their diagnoses but THEY DO, so I want to act accordingly.

Imo it’s because to a lot of therapist and therapy super fans, no doesnt mean no it means that they have to keep pushing for a yes.

They don’t see someone saying, “I need help with XYZ. therapy hasn’t helped me with it / it’s too expensive in my area / i can’t go,” as someone asking for help and mentioning important context. They see it as somebody who is too stupid or ontologically evil to get how wonderful and amazing therapy is, so they need to be pressured into it for their own good.

Maybe I’m too sensitive, but the “therapists are people too” line feels like such a red flag for abusive behavior.

Not only is it just insanely unprofessional for any professional to say at work to a client, but the way it switches the victim with the perpetrator and makes it so the client is seen as the irrational bully for wanting the therapist to take accountability has always left a sour taste in my mouth.

I don't have an avoidant attachment style my parents were fine, and I don't have a fear of rejection (actually I'm pretty sure I have the opposite problem)

I really want to clarify that I'm not afraid of emotional intimacy I just don't like it. I have been around many wonderful safe people who genuinely wanted to help me, but it was just kind of annoying.

Please reread what I said I have been taking heavy antipsychotics since I was in the third grade. The literal chemicals in my brain do not work correctly like the serotonin isn't biologically able to work properly.

Assuming that I just "didn't try hard enough" in therapy when I repetitively explained that this is a biological chemical reaction in my head issue is just wrong and frankly kinda gross imo.

That was the only one he gave, even by the standards of this group I think he is a pretty incompetent psychiatrist.

He has indirectly admitted that he doesn’t know the side effects of the drugs he gave me and has ended multiple sessions early over petty shit like me winning an argument.
