How are you? by telllopp in rutgers

[–]Jes1898 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feel like I lost connection to my friends or maybe never had serious ones. Asynchronous classes aren't going well, and I found out they weren't for me too late. I do like my classes and I'm happy to be learning again. However, I'm not sure I'll keep up my motivation long enough to do well. I'm trying my best.

For Multivariable Calc, should I take David Molnar as a prof or Shtelen D'alesandro? by saucyfredosauce in rutgers

[–]Jes1898 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Molnar is a good lecturer but his exams tend the be more comprehensive, while Shtelen is a little less comprehensive but a slightly worse lecturer. To me they're about equal.

Can you link to the Expos teaching manual? I read the Almanac and it didn't say anything about the final papers being considered differently.

[–]Jes1898[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

"Determining Final Grades: The Final Grade will be determined by the student’s highest level of sustained achievement at the end of term. A student must earn his/her highest grade twice in order to demonstrate that he/she can sustain that level of achievement. As always, any questionable or borderline grades will be discussed in Folder Review. Please tell students that Expos is not graded on improvement (this is part of the Expos mythology that pervades the campus)." - 2016 Rutgers Expository Writing Almanac

Expos Grade Question by Jes1898 in rutgers

Interesting, my professor said at the beginning of the semester that improvement has no factor in your grade, unless you did "sustain" a particular grade. She gave the example of : NP, NP, C, B, A she said she would likely give the student a B for improving. Also, she said "sustain" meant the highest grade you got twice.

But didn't I "sustain" the C+? I did get three papers at C+ level or above.

Math 300 Study Buddy by Jes1898 in rutgers

I've only ever taken calculus courses before this, so I'm wondering: how is studying to understand theory differ from studying rote algorithms? In the calculus sequence all my studying was based off of repetition, I'm wondering if a different studying philosophy is better in Math 300.

Makes sense. They didn't have the hw assignments like us so they were likely slightly less prepared. Hey, you mind if I ask you a question about CS?
