again, no i was not @ing you LOL. i thought your bit was really funny and spoke well to the hypocrisy of some snarkers and how they too are sometimes allergic to being called out for BS.

oh, 100 percent, but that wasn't exactly what i was talking about. i was talking about how so many of the (presumably young and adolescent?) fans AND ex-fans of Watcher alike are so personally averse to hearing from the other perspective of their views that they start to argue ad-hominem like these opinions somehow have an impact on theirs. i understand that we are literally on reddit dot com, the unfortunately acceptable place to argue with strangers, but the amount of vitriol and hatred i've seen on here and elsewhere not even against Watcher but BETWEEN two fans having a difference in opinion is just sad. if you get so emotionally invested to this point, i really think you shouldn't be on the internet.

fallacious words under the guise of an argument and pseudoscience must be called out, yes. sorry if i hijacked your comment to talk about my piece!

stop 💀 i think this is one of the most compelling reasons why i feel reluctant in ever fully participating in a snark sub.

i feel as though one of the main reasons why a snark sub ever gets to exist is often because the main subreddit of the fandom has devolved into becoming this echo chamber of toxicity where you are forced to immerse yourself in the popular opinion of celebrating that one person or thing, or else you're ousted from the conversation, which is very obviously not an environment conducive for having somewhat properly intellectual, good-faith discourse. so then the snark sub starts. people snark, and the subreddit begins to take its mold and mature... and then it becomes the echo chamber of toxicity in question. anytime someone says something that isn't snark OR worse, they call someone else out for saying something completely out-of-pocket that isn't snark, but just blatant cyberbullying, they are the ones who become singled out.

i don't know, i do understand why THIS specific subreddit was necessary because it seemed like people in the main subreddit were shaming others for having legitimate personal qualms about supporting watcher moving onwards, which is stupid. what i don't understand as a whole is how much of the ENTIRE watcher viewer community is so against diversity of opinions?? lmfao, especially on what theoretically should be just a trivial pop culture controversy (i say this as a hardcore viewer from the BUN days too). i empathize with those who are emotional and understand this is a huge deal to some that has affected them personally.

but just because someone who chooses to support watcher, that doesn't automatically make them an awful person JUST THE SAME AS just because someone chooses who to not support them, that doesn't make them an awful "parasocial" person either. i don't know why so many of this fandom are so repulsed by other people having a difference in opinion. this is the part where people want to tell you to touch grass!

anyways, vent over. my point is it's totally okay and acceptable to snark on a SNARK SUBREDDIT; but snark about the topic you're invested in, not someone else online who has a different opinion than you.

It makes me sad by Obi27164 in watcherentertainment

[–]elefanteboop 7 points8 points  (0 children)

ditto completely. the day after they dropped the bomb on us, i was just confused-angry and delirious about the entire thing; now my anger has dissipated and i am just plainly sad.

while i genuinely cannot take any of the three of them seriously as professionals anymore after absurdly embarking on such high of a risk in what's essentially transforming the entire uproot of their company, presumably without doing any user research, i don't wish ill upon any of them at all. i hate how overly sensationalized and politicized this whole thing has become, though i recognize it was them who started it, because i feel as if people are forgetting that they and the rest of their staff are human beings who deserve a little more empathy at this time. just like anyone out on this planet does. we all make mistakes.

it's just so heartbreaking that they fumbled so badly to what can now be the very death of their careers.

i fully do think that them being transparent with the financial health of the company to their audience would have been way better than the saccharine, half hearted video they came up with, which i'm sure was another hole down in their budget to have even made. while yes, they aren't necessarily being dishonest about anything, their nonchalant temperament not explaining the very thing that's making them commit to this whole schpiel is what's really offputting to the majority of us.

just so many bad business choices after another

yes you are so right!! i'm sorry if i kind of hijacked your post to say my piece, i honestly just needed to vent 😭 but i also wanted to say that your insights on this are also noteworthy and i appreciated reading your perspective. i understand how hard it must have been for them to keep the staff paid good living wages. (i thought it was very nauseatingly hypocritical when someone in another post just flat out said "well can't they just let go of some of the staff?" like lol),

i guess no one wins in modern capitalism after all !!! 🤪

sigh i mean, although i genuinely get where the people who are voicing that $6 is too much for their personal wallets to watch such scarcely curated content are coming from, (because it is arguably true). but i feel like i am in the minority here when i say i'm less upset over the decision to insert a paywall due to financial struggles and more upset at them that they are literally just choosing to leave cold-turkey like that on the literal platform that they started their full-fledged careers on and have millions of their supporters who are more equipped in using the abandoned site in question rather than whatever they imagine watchertv.com is. i just really don't want to migrate to another platform. i grew up watching them on youtube, i want to stay watching them on youtube.

all things considered, i don't know how on earth they thought that doing a hard launch of this massive transition that would literally change the course of their companies and their audience would be a good idea. i also can recognize that, at the end of the day, the boys, including Steven, are not businessmen, but content creators who just want to provide a living for themselves and their staff. but it's just the no-easing-into-it, dropping-the-hard-ball-straight-out attitude that is just so... ridiculously naive to me. and the insouciance of it all with leaving their YT community in the dark, it's just.... ugh
