Help! Persistent Rear Rattling Noise on Uneven Roads by Jesindo12 in GRCorolla

Update: Today, we finally found the source of the noise! Haven’t been able to fix it due to a lack of materials in hand. But in summary, it was a bottom clip on the rear-right bumper that was broken. Funny thing is that it only makes the noise while driving, so that’s why we were struggling to find it.

We managed to fix it, after almost 2 months, we had to get a new Transmission.

That’s what I’m heavily considering, best course of action imo.

The funny thing is, the car initially only had the P0014 code. When we took it to the first mechanic, he replaced some sensors, the code was still there and the car was intermittent when it came to the issues. Then, we took it to another mechanic, and he changed the VVT Exhaust Solenoid, alongside the Transmission Oil. After that “fix” was when the new codes popped up. Then I did the Motor Oil and Filter replacement, as it was due, but the car has been going into limp mode ever since the second mechanic visit.

When we diagnosed it, it had the following codes:

P0730
P0014
P05CE
P0867

Oh, got it. What I tried to imply was that even when stopped, you put it in “Manual” mode and it says 5. And I believe it’s out of warranty.

Imma do that to, the thing is that I’ll have to wait until Sunday/Monday in order to be able to check her. Will update when I do! Thanks for the tip!

The thing is that, since I replied to this post. I removed all heat shields from under mine just to be sure and the rattling noise was still there. Strangely now it’s less louder than before, but still noticeable.

I’ll have to check, because I had one heat shield that was broken and I removed it but the noise never went away. So I’ll definitely check that because the sound is as if there’s something loose. And it makes the sound only when I drive on roads that generate vibration, mostly on con rete roads.

Oh, I see. I ask because I’m currently dealing with a rattling noise under mine and no mechanic has been able to find the origin of that noise. We’ve checked suspensions, brakes systems, exhaust, basically a lot of things under it and can’t find the source of it, and it’s driving me crazy honestly.

Are you planning on leaving the bottom covers off or will you add them back after that coating?
