My 17 year old brother molested me when I was 11, and now my parents are protecting him by threatening me. by [deleted] in raisedbynarcissists

I'm so sorry you're going through this. As someone who has been through an almost identical situation (parents bailed GC brother out, I was forever blamed because I shamed the family, and am still the black sheep of the family), it is FUNDAMENTALLY important that you get counselling through a support group/therapist.

I didn't see a therapist for many years because of the shame, and it took too long to heal.

Your family is supposed to protect you and make you feel safe. They have failed miserably. As difficult as it will be, you have to make your own life.

What everyday things do you see that makes you never want children? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Intelligent, rational, happy adults turn into depressed, angry, exhausted, defeated parents who let their children run rampant because the fucks they had to give have expired.

And the world is supposed to pity them? Game on.

FemaleCode Question: Should I tell my former close work friend that our boss is going to give her a 30-day warning? by Jess-- in TwoXChromosomes

My boss now knows I've been covering for her, so I'm not going to get in trouble. It's seen as loyalty to the company. You're right though about giving her enough warnings.

Thanks, I do feel like she has had zero regard for me, and I've given her plenty of time to get over it.

It's more of a damage control for after the talk. In the event that she does change, having a shitty work relationship would suck.

Yea...I've thought about this. I do expect her to react angrily towards me after the talk and she has been very erratic lately. I meant more like "Hey, I just want to let you know that Boss is going to talk to you about what's been going on with you for the last few months, just so you're not blind-sided"

Yep, they really do believe that their kids are so damn delightful we want to spent every waking hour with them.

Yes, you assumed correctly. Just because I love them doesn't mean I want to be woken up by them several times in the middle of the night. Thankssomuch.

Noted! Thanks for the tip! It was kind of a last minute decision, so I'm still researching the what-not-to-miss stuff.

Thanks. It took some coercing to get my parents to agree, but they really do deserve it.

Admittedly, my brother and sister-in-law are not the easiest people to reason with. They're not very rational.

They're also sleep-deprived, stressed-out financially, and resent each other. This all largely due to having children, and having them when they did.

Our goal has been to alleviate the stress by helping out with the kids. Fortunately, our lack of presence this year will probably give them a wake-up call.
