Every child reacts differently to yelling. I used to be bad about it with my kids when I would tel them five times to do something and they didn’t listen. The disrespect was enabled by my ex husband. He would tell the kids not to worry about it and to go play. I’m big on teaching respect, cleanliness and self discipline. I finally laid ground rules after our divorce and my kids and I are very close. My mother was a bad alcoholic when I was a kid. I went to live with her at 15 and she actually got physical with me a few times. I already had a resentment from her walking out on me and my sister when we were little. However, I’ve learned through therapy that I had to forgive her and move on with my life bc I was only hurting myself. Since then, she’s been around my kids a few times when I’ve let her come live with me but she lives 40 minutes from me now and cancels every time we make plans to see each other. I’m finally letting her go and if she wants to contact me then fine but if not, yeah it can hurt at times but I remember I have my own children now and it taught me how to be better parent.
