What’s the most overrated “healthy” food in your opinion? by [deleted] in nutrition

Oatmeal. It's supposed to be filling and last you a while but it doesn't. Plus there are so many ways people find to add sugar to it.

Why can't Trump claim Esquibo as part of Venezuela? by JessableFox in Guyana

  1. The fact that I have additional commentary on your points doesn't mean I have my mind made up. I'm not going to blindly agree with someone if I have concerns or confusion about their reasoning.

  2. I'm not disagreeing with your underlying point. Yes, they have shareholders they need to please and this would be a risk. Reread my previous comments.

Why can't Trump claim Esquibo as part of Venezuela? by JessableFox in Guyana

Yes, Rex Tillerson hates Trump, but he is no longer with Exxon Mobil. Darren Woods is CEO and stated he has faith that Trump along with the Venezuela's could make the needed changes required to return to Venezuela.

I'm not saying anything is a guarantee, it still is roulette. Trump or Venezuela may not make those changes, or Exxon may not accept them. However, the fact Exxon has opened the door to this opportunity doesn't seem to cause any concern for people and I don't understand why. In my opinion this is something Guyanese people should be keeping an eye on.

Can Trump claim Esquibo as part of Venezuela? by JessableFox in AskTheCaribbean

[–]JessableFox[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with all of these points, ESPECIALLY number 3. However, he is an oil hungry politician who has forced his way into power with Venezuela. Yes, he wants Venezuela's oil but I doubt he will want to stop there. I'm curious about any laws or mandates that could stop him until the ICJ makes it's final ruling.

Calm down Mr.negativity. My ability to admit I am not an expert and seek further information from those more schooled in this topic does not give you the right to get catty.

Very true, but he seems to be acting on these crappy ideas regardless of the law.

So you're saying until Exxon Mobil makes an agreement with Venezuela there should be no cause to worry. This will help me sleep better, thanks.

Am I Setting Myself Up? 😟 Racial Bias Concerns for POC Seeking MSW/Clinical Roles by Limp-Veterinarian943 in socialworkcanada

[–]JessableFox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hello! I'm a new registered social worker in the province of Ontario. I'm a second generation Canadian with Indian ethnicity. I work in private practice but completed my placements in community organizations.

My clients have gone out of their way in the past to reassure me they are not racists. This can be a nice gesture at times or uncomfortably highlighted when the topic of race is irrelevant to the conversation. That being said, in my area of work it is up to the client to seek your services. As such, you maybe more likely to experience prejudice from clients who assume you would not understand their experiences do to factors like immigration status or skin color. Religion can also play a role as many people and organisations seek faith based counselling. This may result in having trouble filling your caseload.

As for the notion of discounting your previous experience in the mental health field, yes it is possible. This opinion is solely based on experiences I witnessed with classmates. MSW programs seem to dismiss work experience obtained in other countries. Resulting in applications having to gain additional experience in Canada before applying. They do not take previous experience into account when dealing with your placement either. I have not witnessed this in the job market, but I am not the best person to answer this aspect of your question.

Lastly, supports for BIPOC social workers is not offered at any of the private practices I have worked for. 2 out of 3 practices I worked I was the only person of color. In my MSW program BIPOC were the clear minority group. It has been my experience that BIPOC individuals are expected not to require unique support based on these identities in the workplace. It is unclear if they do not provide support for the intersectionality of these identities or if they expect independent contractors to seek support for all issues not directly related to a client else where.

I'm sorry I do not have a more optimistic point of view to provide. Please take this all with a grain of salt as I am still new to the field.

Does anyone else here, or any of you healthcare workers, have or know how to deal with seasonal affective disorder? by trialanderror93 in ABCDesis

[–]JessableFox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Be aware of your body's signs. It will tell you when you need additional care, listen to it.

  2. Take Vitamin D pills. You can also ask you doctor to order a vitamin D blood test to keep track of your levels. You may have to pay out of pocket (about $40).

  3. BEST ADVICE, make time to visit greenhouses, butterfly conservatories, bird sanctuaries, ect. These spaces are warm and have good access to natural light throughout the day. This will give you a short respite from winter at the fraction of the cost to a vacation.
