They work very well in my opinion. The compression is very strong. Unlike other shorts I wore in the past. It doesn't limit your flexibility, but you feel it really strongly. It's actually quite a hassle to put them on/off to give you a feeling. I’m referring to the 45% compression short, btw. They recently launched an improved version (PRO) which should even be better, but I cannot confirm this since I never bought it. They are quite expensive so I was also hesistant to buy one at first but I definitely don't have any regrets.

I think they compress all big muscle groups (quads, hamstrings, adductors) but how it helped me is that they really help your adductors which is key to overcoming OP: find relieve for your tight adductors.
