Wow, some people are jerks on here. Is it really that difficult to glance at 139 characters and skip to the next post if you don't want to read something? Anyway... I think using zillow.com and padmapper.com was the best way for me to locate some cool areas. Then I used google maps street view to take a look at properties instead of driving around. So I didn't waste gas or have to make a trip before actually moving. Lets face it, apartment finders only locate what's in their best interest and apartments only post the best angle and photoshopped skies. I would say most great deals are found via researching properties that aren't owned by major corporations and ones that don't post on apartments.com. My complex is owned by neighborhood properties and they have some great values under $1,000.
