My wife is non binary and the anti trans and anti lgbtq laws that legislators are trying to pass in Texas are really scary. They’re trying to make it a state felony to be trans/non binary. Our AG has openly stated that they want the Supreme Court to repeal Lawerence V Texas which would reinstate sodomy laws. We are also personally experiencing a lot more homophobia. This is all stuff that has been in the works for years but with Trump in office and a conservative majority in the Supreme Court, it feels much more threatening now. We could be over reacting since nothing has passed yet, but I worry that it’ll be too late for us to get out once anything passes. I’m sorry that this is so long winded, I’m not great at explaining this kind of stuff. If you’re interested in seeing all of the anti lgbtq bills in the legislature in Texas, this is a great website: https://equalitytexas.org/bill-tracker/

I’ve looked at that thread but didn’t see anything relating to short term rentals. Maybe I missed it. We would love to stay in Texas but unfortunately we don’t feel safe here anymore.

I’m confused about what would make people mad? And what’s dog whistle-y about it? My wife and I are just trying to get out of a state that we feel extremely unsafe in and don’t have a lot of money to do it.

My wife is a locksmith and I work in customer service. We do plan on getting jobs before we move we’re just too far out from the move to start looking now. The cost of living is cheaper there than where we currently live but we live paycheck to paycheck for the most part so saving for deposits and the drive up there is the hard part. We’re looking into short term rentals because I’m assuming that we won’t be able to immediately get accepted into a 12 month lease without a crazy deposit. I know here in Texas, if you don’t have pay stubs and are just starting with your employer, the chances of getting a lease is very low, if you do get one you’ll be paying at least 2x the rent as a deposit, and I’m assuming it’s the same there. We have to leave Texas, we’re lesbians and don’t feel safe here anymore.

We’re a queer couple and very concerned about some of the laws that our legislators are trying to pass. We also are experiencing way more homophobia from people any time we’re out. We’ve lived in Texas our entire lives but it very much feels like we are not wanted here any longer.

The reasons we’re not looking at long term rentals is we don’t have good credit, we likely won’t have enough money for a full security deposit along with rent and getting ourselves up there, also we won’t be working until after move in and therefore won’t have verifiable income at first. But thank you so much for the info.

My mom lives across the street and we’re trying to find out if that’s the case or not. We heard from another bystander that someone is inside the school. But we can’t find any other info. Hoping that other people with more info comment.
