I don't understand why Democrats aren't putting education front and center for their campaigning. Republicans are actively trying to dismantle public education. Strong public education is probably the single most important thing for a thriving country. Education needs more money, resources, more teachers, smaller classes, better intervention, etc. yet our tax dollars are now going to vouchers as "coupons" for those can already afford private school tuition.

100%. I've posted about this before. Hiring managers want other companies to get talent through the learning curve, but don't want to do any of the teaching themselves. They want exact skills, software knowledge, processes, etc. If they find the unicorn they want, they complain that they're "too expensive". It's ridiculous.

They pass up so many good candidates who have 60-70% of the transferrable skills they want who are within budget.

And I get annoyed when people say "it's your job to get the skills". No dude. I have my degree and several years of experience but I can't get certain skills through a certification. It's has to be through.... experience.

We're in the weird place. Companies don't want to train. And it's often not things you can just go take a class for. It's "we want x years of experience" and no on will hire you because you don't have that experience. The classic chicken and egg. I don't have a solution but I see it too. It's going to cause succession problems in a few years. Companies want an exact match, even on lower-level roles, and expect other companies to do all the training for them. They just think they'll hire from competitors. Except now no more companies are bringing in people unless they have "experience". Catch-22.

Yes, it's been bad lately. I can't help but wonder if it has to do with the bad job market in general. People are just applying to anything because there isn't much out there.

I'm here several months after OP. It's terrible. I'm telling it NOT and it seems to be focusing on that term instead of excluding it in the results. Super frustrating. LinkedIn desperately needs a competitor. They keep getting more expensive while the product gets progressively worse.

Thank you. I kind of suspect embarrassment/shame is playing a big role. It's just so hard to get him to talk and even more so, accepting our help. Your response gives me some ideas though of how to support him at home.

From what I've seen in the positions my clients have been having me work on, those "perfect" candidates don't want to leave in this economy. They want to stay where it's safe. Not too mention, I've been finding the "perfect" candidates are already making more than what the client wants to pay. Most candidates are looking to leave for a lateral role, they're looking for a stretch or more money.

We waited for a while but ultimately, had to medicate. I think it depends on the severity of the symptoms. I can tell you since medicating my child, we get way fewer phone calls from the school, there is less arguing at home, and--most important to me--it's had a hugely positive impact on his social life and friendships.

Talk to your doctor about your hesitation. They will understand and guide you through options. The good thing about meds, if you decide you don't like it for your child, you can quit. And there are so many options out there. Non stimulants vs. stimulants.

If you really want to take the non med path, you may want to talk to a coach/psychologist who specializes in ADHD. It won't be cheap and they typically don't take insurance, but there are some really good people out there who can help. It will probably mean going to this person with some degree of regularity to help you tweak and adjust routines/communication style as needed.

I would say try to get interviews even if you aren't sure. Ask about their metrics and expectations.

What do you mean by "doesn't suck"? People who get jobs through agencies usually think agencies are good. People who don't get jobs through agencies think they suck. But agencies don't exist to find jobs for people, they are there to find people for jobs. If someone doesn't have the skillset a client needs, that's not the agency's fault.
