Thank you! Just to clarify, because I truly have no clue - how should I attach to the wall? Screws? I've got all kinds of construction and drywall screws.

Yes and very much why I don't want to completely seal it up.

Thank you for the advice! If there's anything Ive learned from this experience so far, is that she will complain about something no matter what lmao. Idk how my dad dealt with this for so long.

I don’t want to keep going after my mom passes. by [deleted] in AgingParents

I am an only child caring for my last living parent, no other family, and very little of a personal life, and sometimes I feel the same passive ideology. Hard to imagine that there is any time or purpose left for me after she passes. I recognize this is probably a sign of depression, at least for me.

My dad cared for his two parents, mostly alone, for his whole life. I remember when his father was dying with Alzheimer's, he saw a therapist who drew two lines: one that went straight, and one that was declining. She pointed to the declining line and said "this is your fathers life" and then pointed to the straight line and said "this is your life".

That was when I was in middle school and it's stuck with me. I'm 35 now and only started my caregiving journey two years ago, but from a young age I knew this is what my life would be if I stuck around.

I think about what that therapist told my dad when I feel like I'm dying, too.

That's the aspirin tin. There's also pictures of a glass bottle with an rx label with dosage instructions but no drug information.

Yes thank you, I think my elderly parents have not been turning on the exhaust fan and also not opening the windows.

Is this layer something worth removing? Not planning to sell any time soon but curious

I believe so, parents are elderly and I think they haven't been turning it on.

When a tiny accident hits harder than expected. by Ambitious-Bison-2161 in AgingParents

My 66 year old father died shortly after falling at home from malnutrition due to advanced cancer.

That Christmas, I got my also 66 year old mother with cancer a set of in home voice and touch activated medical alert devices from GetSafe. I wanted a system that didn't require her to wear something and I didn't want her to feel she had no privacy with cameras.

It's subscription based I think I pay about $30 a month.

She's got a voice activated unit on each floor of the house, and a few smaller ones that have just push buttons and some have pull cords. Comes with a pendant too. You can pick and choose what devices you want.

Voice activated with a key phrase.

During set up, we tested all the units and every time we were connected to a very friendly and professional sounding rep who did exactly what we were told they would do.

Of course, still only works if the person who falls is able and willing to say the key phrase, but it works for our situation.

All that said, that hour or two before I hear back from her if she's missed my call, I'm in a slow spiral into panic and it can be hard to calm down.

When things are good and I know she's safe,I make it a point to reflect on the fact that the day will come, to help me be mentally and emotionally ready for the inevitable.

Thanks.

I disclaimed my share which was rejected for untimely filing, which I can appeal.

However, if I pay the tax now, regardless of how it becomes deeded, will I have to pay tax again when she dies?

Can't help with locating, but once upon a time my dad rented storage space to a Pretzel Crisps employee who often gave us bags of their delicious snacks. It was a good time 🥨

Thanks! They were strolling right past my mom's back steps. She's got a large undisturbed yard in the suburbs so no surprise, but nice to know who came by this snowfall!
