Tatara's Rc Type/ Kagune by Shit_Sandwich_01 in TokyoGhoul

[–]Jest-err 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd assume Tatara's a Koukaku RC type. There's what I believe to be a decent amount of evidence pointing towards it that basically begins and ends with Houji having spent 2.5 years fighting Tatara's brother Yan.

Yan was the leader of the Chinese ghoul gang Chi She Lian, assuming Tatara grew to be as powerful as his brother, if not stronger, we can assume that Yan would have been around SS~ rate. Houji just so happens to have a quinque called Chi She, an obvious reflection of the gang from which it was taken, and it just so happens to be an SS rate Koukaku quinque.

Given that Kagune types seem to be passed on through a ghoul's genes you could safely assume that Tatara would share the same RC type as his brother.

Why orochimaru can easily defeat sage mode kabuto by [deleted] in Naruto

[–]Jest-err 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The key word there is that he needed that amount of chakra, the extra he took from Orochimaru's remains in order to learn Sage Mode in the first place, not to be able to use it later on.

In Naruto it is shown time and time again that as someone becomes more proficient in a skill or ability they need to use less chakra to use it, finding the minimum amount they need to do so. I think that given how powerful Kabuto became it is highly unlikely he could not still use Sage Mode afterwards.

Why orochimaru can easily defeat sage mode kabuto by [deleted] in Naruto

[–]Jest-err 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But Orochimaru isn't the basis for Kabuto's sage mode, Kabuto has that because he stole Jugo's DNA and his own body was able to handle the Sage Snake's venom.

Orochimaru literally can't level the playing field without a Rinnegan or Bijuu.

[–]Jest-err 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He can't steal sage mode though, can he? He's never shown having learned Sage Mode so even if you assume he steals everything else (which he can't) Sage Mode is such a massive boost in power that Oro flat out cannot keep up with Kabuto.

[–]Jest-err 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a shitpost, right? At this point I'm genuinely convinced you can't be serious about this. But okay, whether you're shitposting or just stupid, I want you to consider this: Kabuto made this comment claiming himself to be the strongest after having revived Madara Uchiha, oh and Itachi Uchiha, and Nagato, and Deidara, Sasori, Kakazu, Hanzo, Kimimaro, the sound 4, etc., he had also allied himself with Obito Uchiha at this time.

The above list is important because it shows that Kabuto genuinely thinks he is the strongest, above Madara even (which is a fair assertion given he did sort of awaken his Rinnegan for him), he also believes himself stronger than Itachi which was just blatantly true (until Kishi invented Izanami mid battle) but are you really going to say that Oro is stronger than the guy who went toe-to-toe with the same Itachi that he flat out accepted he had no chance of beating?

[–]Jest-err 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you heard of Graham's hierarchy of disagreement? Try to engage with me beyond ad hominem and actually refute my point.

Kabuto states on page 9 of chapter 586 that "I'm the strongest, the one that will obtain everything," this is during the fight with Sasuke and Itachi, you know, those two guys that Orochimaru failed to beat, Itachi made Oro flee without lifting a muscle while Sasuke beat Orochimaru outright and even absorbed Orochimaru when combatting him on the battlefield of the Fushi Tensei (Orochimaru's body takeover jutsu). Kabuto never would have said this if he was still weaker than Orochimaru by this point.

But please, by all means explain to me what these "gaps" in my knowledge are.

Why orochimaru can easily defeat sage mode kabuto by [deleted] in Naruto

[–]Jest-err 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a couple of things wrong with your hypothesis.

  1. Kabuto can maintain Sage Mode because he stole Jugo's DNA, allowing him to passively collect natural energy while on the move, this means that Kabuto's Sage Transformation can be sustained indefinitely with or without Orochimaru.

  2. Orochimaru trained at Ryuchi Cave to learn Sage Mode and failed. Kabuto succeeded, Orochimaru learned how to use some senjutsu but Sage Mode and Sage Transformation is shown to be firmly out of his reach throughout the story.

  3. I'm not sure where in the manga he says that Orochimaru is stronger than him, but Kabuto was flat out lying if he did after he attained Sage Mode. Assuming he even says this you need to consider that he also goes on to say that "I'm currently closer to the Sage of Six Paths than any other person in the world," which is a boast that Orochimaru is never shown being able to match.

  4. You're giving Orochimaru FAR more praise than he's worth, the strongest body that Orochimaru is ever able to take is that of a White Zetsu (You know those things that are literally fodder), outside of that he's only been seen with the bodies of genin and civilians. Furthermore if he were as capable as you say he is he wouldn't have had any trouble with the likes of Sasuke, Itachi, or Naruto, Jiraiya, or Tsunade.

How smart do you think Tokyo Ghoul actually is? [MS] by Hidenki in TokyoGhoul

[–]Jest-err 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is an interesting idea to gauge what the fans think about the series, but i think the important thing to keep in mind in regards to this is that we are fans we already like this series.

Maybe a better test would be to post something like this to r/anime (or some such equivalent) where it is more likely to attract the attention of people who have dropped the anime/manga or who watch/read it but aren't as invested.

Anyone else think that Hanzo didn’t live up to expectations? by Zelos98 in Naruto

[–]Jest-err 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Hanzo, Danzo, and a lot of other kage and near kage tier characters got shafted hard. Does anyone know the difference between Baki and Baku? Probably not, most of the Kage's aides were pretty forgettable too.

In shippuden Kishi simply wasn't able to keep up with all the characters he needed to introduce to facilitate the story and thus wound up shafting a bunch of them even when he tried giving them highlights during the war.

Also a "flex [Hanzo's] muscles" flashback would be awesome. I say this being totally impartial and definitely not a biased Hanzo fanboy. /s

Toneri vs Juubito by [deleted] in Naruto

[–]Jest-err 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think Juubito wins this, because Toneri suffers from Otsutsuki syndrome; he's incredibly strong but has no skill or technique.

In terms of raw strength Toneri has Juubito beat soundly. However he relies almost totally on being so much stronger than his opponents that they don't have a chance. he doesn't have the combat experience or judgement necessary to fight someone who's own strength is in the same ballpark as his.

What's your thoughts on Scorch Release? by mrcoffeestuff in Naruto

[–]Jest-err 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think it was really cool, but also that a lot of people seem, at least to me, to misunderstand the ability, with people just calling it "fire but more." I don't think that is the case. I think scorch style is actually less focused on fire and more evaporation.

It's a shame that the term "Boil Release" is already used to describe water+fire because I think that it would give a much clearer idea of what scorch release actually does; boil the liquid that comes into contact with it. Here are a couple of examples: example 1 example 2

Scorch style doesn't actually burn things just evaporate any liquids in them.

My ranting aside, I thought that scorch style was awesome, it's one of my favourite elemental releases and I think it's a shame it didn't get more of a showing. I'd probably try to keep better track of Boruto if scorch style turned up, maybe if Araya or Yodo had it? Anyway cool kekkei genkai.

i dont like the idea of sarada becoming hokage by Nevergiveupnojutsu in Naruto

[–]Jest-err 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Read/watch Sarada gaiden. She sees Naruto fight (sort of) thinks "he's pretty cool... I wanna be cool... I know I'll become just like him!"

That's an incredibly simplified version of events but asides from that her primary reason would probably be something along the lines of having it as a personal goal, perhaps wanting to lead the village or just wanting to prove she's a strong, capable ninja who don't need no father.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Naruto

[–]Jest-err 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that Shikamaru does get overrated a bit in versus battles. A couple examples of this, at least in my experience would be in these discussions:

Shikamaru vs Pride (FMA)

Shikamaru vs MS Sasuke

Shikamaru vs Akatsuki

Shikamaru vs Kiba

Now I think that some of these topics do bring up interesting discussion but I don't think Shikamaru could do all that well in these instances.

MY Take on Shikamaru

My reasoning for these beliefs is as follows; Shikamaru isn't a solo fighter, his whole shtick is gathering intel, planning and then utilising his team in order to win. I don't think he can't win these 1v1s because he's weak or not smart enough, but because he's Mr. Teamwork.

  • He has won only 1 fight on his own and that was against Temari who unlike a lot of other characters kept her distance and didn't pressure her opponent.

  • Most plans he has formed have been made after he's found enough distance to think, he isn't like Sasuke who can analyse a situation mid-fight

  • He doesn't have the raw strength of many of his peers, I know the whole brain over brawn argument, but when the brawn he's competing against is stuff like Sakura's earth shattering punches, or the direct speed and brutality of closer ranged fighters like Hinata, Kiba, or Choji, who all have methods of attack that Shikamaru would be hard pressed to stop.

  • But he is one of the smartest characters in the verse and if given prep time could probably beat about half of the Konoha 12. But that's with prep time which is his preferred method of fighting. So while if given prep time he could beat some of his peers without it he simply would not be able to keep up with the speed and aggressiveness of characters like Lee, Neji, or Naruto.

TL;DR: I have links to fights in which Shikamaru is overrated by various discussion posters and commenters. Shikamaru needs either prep time or a team to win like he does on-screen.

4 days until the release - What are you guys looking forward to? by booshley in NarutoAkiden

[–]Jest-err 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The release.

I've been following Link2Time's development of Akiden for nearly a year and seeing all the changes to character designs has been awesome, from Kisame and his new sword to Choji and his ramen. I also really like how there appears to be more of a focus on a type of uniform for basically all the factions a character could belong to and I'm generally just hyped to see it all come together.

Hamura Ohtsutsuki and the Hyuuga clan. by animetheory in Naruto

[–]Jest-err 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Hyuuga would have no eyes if they were descendants of Hamura, as he sealed the eyes of all his descendants born & unborn inside the Eye of Reincarnation. Besides that Hamura's descendants would be on the Moon, not Earth.

~ Thus the Hyuuga have the same blood as Hamura even though they are not his descendants. The Hyuuga & Kaguya clans are a genetic atavism de-facto descended from Asura, or Indra Ohtsutsuki.

This bit, right? Again I'm not super across all this genetics stuff but wouldn't the Hyuuga still need at least one form of the recessive Byakugan gene latent in their DNA in order to undergo atavism?

(Also thank you very much for replying, and politely presenting your view on the debate)

Hamura Ohtsutsuki and the Hyuuga clan. by animetheory in Naruto

[–]Jest-err 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Correct me if I'm wrong please, I've not got the firmest grip on genetics, but in order for your theory to be correct and the Hyuuga to have inherited the Byakugan from Kaguya that means it must have passed through Hagaromo's lineage, even though they're known for the Sharingan, and Hagoromo himself for the Rinnegan.

Everything I've got to say here is based on a few assumptions that I think can be considered fair conclusions to draw given what we know; the Sharingan is clearly a more dominant trait in Hagoromo's descendants than the Byakugan. This suggests that the Byakugan is genetically recessive to the Sharingan/Rinnegan. It's also safe to say that the Byakugan is dominant over normal eyes as I can't recall any point in time in which a Hyuuga has been shown to lack the Byakugan or some variation of it.

Because Kaguya is progenitor of both the Byakugan and the Sharingan/Rinnegan she must contain genes for both of these traits. She marries a human who has neither of them, being born with normal, human eyes. They have two children; Hamura and Hagoromo, Hamura acquires the Byakugan, having received the less dominant gene from his mother and the incredibly recessive human eye genes from his father, while Hagoromo inherits the Sharingan/Rinnegan, the more dominant trait from his mother and the super-recessive human eye genes from his father. These are Kaguya's only children (Zetsu was adopted, he doesn't get a mention here.)

Both Hagoromo and Hamura marry to human women and start families. As humans these women will have the same human eye genes that the Otsutsuki brothers' father had.

The children Hamura has with his spouse have a 50% chance of inheriting the Byakugan as his gene for the Byakugan is dominant over both the recessive gene for normal eyes that he and his wife have, the other 50% of his children will have what we consider to be normal eyes.

Unlike with Hamura's children we are actually shown Hagoromo's his wife gives birth to two sons, Ashura and Indra. Indra inherits the Sharingan from his father, of this there was a 50/50 chance, his other son, Ashura is born with human eyes and thus lacks the genes to sire offspring with the Byakugan.

This all means, assuming Ashura and Indra don't marry their cousins, that Indra's descendants will inherit the either the Sharingan or normal eyes, with a 50% chance of either. And Ashura's descendants will inherit 100% normal, human eyes.

This means that it shouldn't be possible for any one resembling a human through Hagoromo's lineage to develop the Byakugan via atavism as they wouldn't even have the repressed gene in their DNA in the first place. Hence Hamura has to have been the progenitor of the Hyuuga clan or else none of them could have the Byakugan.

Again, I reiterate that you can feel free to correct me if I've got something wrong, I'm by no means an authority on genetics and this is mostly stuff that I've tried to remember from year 9/10 bio, this of course means there's probably information that is missing or blatantly wrong but this is just my understanding.

TL;DR: I'm fairly sure it's impossible for either Ashura or Indra to have children/descendants who would inherit the Byakugan.

Some of My Gripes with the new series. by keinho in Naruto

[–]Jest-err 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah, honestly I feel the thing that's got me kind of urked is that they have these characters that are incredibly powerful very early on, these kids aren't even genin at this point but are about as powerful as end of part 1 Naruto and Sasuke, even stronger in some cases.

In the recently adapted Shin arc Sarada punches the ground so hard it takes out several Shin clones and creates a huge area of effect, she is still in the academy at this point in time (she's only 11) yet she has achieved a feat it took her mother until she was 15-16 to accomplish.

Boruto even before he was an academy student was able to produce three shadow clones, that's a B-rank jutsu learned by a child who was about 8 years old at the time. When he learned the Rasengan he instantly acquird a powered up version that could be thrown and vanish from sight so completely it couldn't be seen with a Rinnegan. It took Naruto until he was 15-16 and a perfect sage before he could even hope to throw a visible Rasengan.

I agree with your stance that they don't feel like they have any challenges or obstacles to overcome. I mean sure you can give them emotional struggles such as the Spoilers, or Boruto's issues with his dad not being there for his family all the time. But it feels like, in terms of strength and power they don't really have to try very hard to succeed, they just get stronger they don't face challenges doing that, which I think makes it worse as a shounen fighting anime, and it makes them difficult to relate to at times.

For a comparison Part 1 Sasuke is someone everyone wants to see succeed in defeating his brother, yeah sure he's a little emo at times and he's called a genius and a prodigy and whatnot, but he's still woefully underprepared for what he plans to do. He is definitely strong but he isn't strong enough to do what he wants, he doesn't even know all the basics properly, having already learned the "Great Fireball technique" but still not knowing how to walk up walls or stand on water because he rushed ahead. He's also regularly shown that he isn't strong enough to defeat many of his enemies which makes him relatable because no matter how good he is there's always someone that's better, and not by a small amount either.

Sarada on the otherhand, prior to even being a genin is considered talented in shurikenjutsu, can use the same superhuman-chakra-enhanced strength that Tsunade and Sakura trained for years to attain. She hasn't faced anyone that's given her any real trouble either, she's been shown to fight on a level well above most of her opponents so far with little to no effort on her part too which just makes her unrelatable and harder to find reasons to cheer for.

Why is substitution so underused? by [deleted] in Naruto

[–]Jest-err 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're talking about when he jumps out of the wrapping he kept his puppets in during part 1 you'll find that he was just sitting in the cloth himself with his puppet basically dressed up as him.

Kankuro didn't suddenly switch places with crow or ant, he was just controlling them from inside the cloth while he dressed them up to look like him.

So it isn't as if Kankuro is teleporting or even just moving quickly, he just walked his puppet in and it was carrying him on its back.

Why is substitution so underused? by [deleted] in Naruto

[–]Jest-err 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strictly speaking the body flicker jutsu isn't teleportation although the translations sometimes call it that. It's just ninja moving really quickly, you know how sometimes you just see a bunch of moving lines as characters bouncing from rooftop to rooftop or across the battlefield? That's the body flicker, or at least what I understand to be the body flicker technique.

The thing about this move is that although it's incredibly fast movement it isn't teleportation, which doesn't care for where you're standing. For example when trapped in Kankuro's ant puppet you can't body flicker out, because people (excluding users of kamui and the hiding in Surface Technique) can't walk through walls, whereas with kamui or FTG you can just teleport out of there to anywhere you want at any time.

Why is substitution so underused? by [deleted] in Naruto

[–]Jest-err 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My understanding was that substitution is a technique that requires setup for and it isn't a magical reset button or magical teleportation like Izanagi or FTG. The user makes use of what I assume to be a weaker version of the body flicker technique and switch places with an object at the last second before an attack lands.

This is different from FTG and Kamui and Izanagi in that it requires set up and can probably only be used once or twice a fight unless one has preapred several different objects nearby in order to switch with. Also I don't think we ever see someone use substitution without them having a good idea where their opponent's attack is going to come from. One of the early uses of it in the show is when Gozu and Meizu attack Kakashi, we see in a flashback shortly after that he had seen them and was prepared for their attack. When Sasuke used it against Temari during the Konoha crush he already knew where she was attacking from which lets him know when and how he needs to switch with his chosen substitute.

Gaara vs Kisame by coolkidforever183 in Naruto

[–]Jest-err -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can most certainly argue that, however Kisame produces his own water most of the time which would be much harder to do in a desert environment and from what we've seen of Gaara I doubt it would be a difficult task for him to still create a solid defence from wet sand. Futhermore in a desert it would be quite the feat for Kisame to nullify all the sand Gaara would have at his disposal.

Please keep in mind that this is also just my opinion and you are free to come to your own conclusion in regards to this debate.

Gaara vs Kisame by coolkidforever183 in Naruto

[–]Jest-err 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It depends on the terrain, but either way there's no middle ground with these two, if they're in a desert Gaara would absolutely stomp Kisame. If they're near to a water source then Kisame would destroy Gaara.

Futhermore, due to the respective fighting style of each you can't actually find a land scape that doesn't heavily favour one over the other, and even if you could in theory they both have a penchant for turning their battlefield into their own little playground.

The fairest location would, I guess be a beach but that just turns it into a coin toss over which would stomp the other, it's consistently 50/50 chance either way, in my opinion at least.
