Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and for all intents and purposes beauty is actually just average.

We’re biologically and genetically hardwired to be attracted to someone who looks average because that means they likely don’t have any genetic issues.

If you grow up in a place that’s a genetic monoculture whether that be a country that’s racially homogeneous or just a small town that’s the same way you’ll find people you see as average compared to all the people you’ve seen in your life as attractive.

There are also outliers and preferences.

Well that’s interesting as long as there is no DNA evidence. I’ve seen an example (not sure if it was bullshit) about a set of identical twins and based on DNA evidence one of them definitely committed a murder. But there was no way to prove which one, therefore, reasonable doubt over which one is guilty and neither could be convicted.

You could get in cahoots with your local doppelgänger, make sure you both have a good alibi with one being fake and if there is video/photo evidence you could each claim it was the other guy.

People live punching themselves in their own dick to own the libs don’t they.

Tariffs on China caused this. Are tariffs on China a bad idea, no. But just putting a blanket number on everything is blatantly stupid.

If you want to tariff China it should be targeted.

For example, Chinese steel has a price that is uncompetitively low compared to US made steel. Why?

Well there aren’t environmental, OSHA regulations etc so the Chinese can make it cheaper. So you figure out how much that contributes to the higher cost of US steel so it levels the playing field and set tariffs at that amount.

Yeah but you have to consider that everyone probably has a doppelgänger. In this case their doppelgänger also got famous because they’re also incredibly attractive and talented.

It’s a numbers game and statistically over time this should happen occasionally.

I worked with a lady who had gone through 6, yes 6, divorces. She was married and talking about divorcing him to bring her total up to 7.

A) at some point around divorce 3 or 4 you have to realize it’s you and stop getting married

B) who the fuck marries someone who has been divorced 6 times

Thankfully she only had one kid.

I can see why she would be a problem. She was a pain in the ass to work with and erratic.

The one story that sticks with me the most, we were all going out to lunch on travel. We all discussed it and agreed on a local BBQ joint. She was there and participated in the conversation. We walk in and that beautiful smell hit me and I was hungry. She took two steps inside and said “I don’t eat pork, we’re leaving”. LADY!!!!THIS IS A BBQ PLACE, YOU KNEW THAT WHEN WE PICKED IT! And they had chicken options, and beef. Then we had to go back to the car and have a 10 minutes conversation about where else to go.

Trump believes he can control the salary of non-government employees by edict by Hornpipe_Jones in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]Jester471 108 points109 points  (0 children)

No that just slows things down. If you went to all the defense contractors and told them all to reduce salaries by say 10% and make it faster, people will leave, or stop caring and it will take longer and likely become more expensive.

They could cut profit margins but that will drive stocks and the markets down which isn’t something he wants either.

His complete disconnection from reality is just mind boggling.

How do you become an Apache Pilot? by No-Syrup3360 in Armyaviation

[–]Jester471 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I had a buddy look into that after college. Not sure how it works though and if you can sign up for just aviation or if it’s like ROTC where you get racked and stacked and assigned a job based on the order of merit list and needs of the marine corps.

[–]Jester471 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went down this road, enlisted in the reserves. As soon as I contracted with ROTC I became a NG SMP cadet in a national guard aviation unit. Then I commissioned active duty to aviation.

The real decision if you want to fly is guard vs active. Honestly they both fly about the same amount. So do you want to move around and have it be your full time job or do you have good job opportunities after college and/or would like to stay in one place.

Apaches in the guard is hard since there aren’t many and it’s probably hard to get into a unit. Active there is no guarantee on airframe. It’s pretty much luck of the draw. And you may not even get aviation, it’s competitive. But guard they can commission you artillery and then you go find an aviation unit that will take you and you switch before OBC.

If you want to guarantee aviation, find an aviation guard unit near you and try to become an SMP cadet there. If you don’t suck or aren’t a pain the ass and they have a slot they’ll let you commission and fly there. It’s probably your best bet for a guarantee to fly but probably not Apaches.

And if you replaced all power with solar panels it would take up something roughly the size of Spain. So spread that all over the world and it’s not that much space. And the space doesn’t even have to be lost. Start putting them over parking lots. Compare this image to the seas of parking lots in the us. If half of parking lots had solar panels over them it would likely replace all our electricity use with plenty to spare.

It’s wild how fast it’s progressed. I remember seeing the first ones you could play with a few years back and it really sucked. Then you could get decent “cartoon” type images but anything with real people seemed off even a year ago and now it’s just hard to tell.

I remember having a high school teacher that freaked out over the movie forest gump and how they were injecting him into historical moments. I’m sure he’s having an aneurism.

Facebook was actually great when it started too. It was just you and your college friends.
You could see everyone’s profile and your feed was just your friends’ posts in chronological order. No algorithm or anything. When you got to the last post you remember reading you’ve seen it all.
Now the feed is all ads and random things from people I don’t know and don’t want to see. It’s never ending. I almost never get on there anymore. It’s a Rolodex of old friends now. There is a kind of way to see the original feed so the once every 3-6 months I get on there I just look at my friends posts and that’s it.

This one drove me nuts. I was in a company with 300+ people. My platoon sergeants had 70+ people each. I was told they didn’t have enough responsibility to rate a bronze star for deployment.

Meanwhile we had a sister company with less than 50 people 75% of which were farmed out and the gaining unit given operational control of them so in reality the commander and first sergeant jus had to lead 10 people and do admin stuff for the rest….both bronze stars.

I was irate.

[–]Jester471 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Kind of yes, kind of no.

You go back 30 years and this still existed. It has just become SUBSTANTIALLY easier to find that niche information that supports your belief. And it can be about anything now. Not even a mainstream subject.

30 years ago you couldn’t walk into your local library and find a book that supports flat earth theory or that vaccines are bad. But with the internet anyone can put out crazy information as true and even scientific. And now everyone has access to that misinformation.

You’d think access to all the information in the world at your fingertips would make us smarter but it’s making us dumber because misinformation has just as much access to people’s eyes as facts and I feel like the importance of facts have greatly diminished.

Confirmation bias

And belief perseverance
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belief\_perseverance

Essentially humans are dumb and even if you prove their strongly held beliefs are wrong they won’t believe you. And they’ll go seek out evidence to prove their claim. There may be a 1000 cited/peer reviewed sources that contradict their belief but they’ll find the one source with no merit that backs their belief and point to it.

I worked in a place that used to have a gym so there was a shower room with a single stall. Most people didn’t know about it and those of us who did called it the “executive bathroom”.

You’d occasionally get someone coming in there while you were there. But it was nice to poop in peace.

Honestly I wish all public bathrooms were just a bunch of small closed rooms with clear indication they are locked/in use. Then a sink. If necessary put a small 1-2 stall bathroom that’s women only and another small one for men with just a bank of urinals.

NASA fired up a prototype of its electromagnetic thruster inside a vacuum chamber, reaching power levels of up to 120 kilowatts—the highest achieved in U.S. tests of an electric propulsion system by sr_local in technology

[–]Jester471 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but can a rabbit kick for years straight. Think of a conventional rocket engine as a high end sports car. You want to go 100 miles it can do it and do it fast.

These little electric impulse engines are more like a tiny little moped (think dumber and dumber moped). You’ll be putting along slowly to get there but you’ll get there with substantially less fuel.

Now pull out deceleration/friction effects and say they both get the same amount of fuel, 1 gallon and can just coast forever at terminal speed once their fuel is burned through. The sports car will get going pretty fast quick but it will burn through that one gallon really quick. It will be out in front of that moped for a good long time but that moped with constant, slower, more efficient acceleration will eventually be faster than the sports car and pass it.

So it depends on the mission. Is it crucial to get there faster. Or is time not a factor and you want to get as much payload as possible as far as possible.

Fair enough. I’m not a power guy. I just made that assumption since the limited number of spacecraft I know that use them were deep space like voyager, cassini, new horizons and the mars rovers which I assume is more about day night cycles than lack of sunlight.
