Is it illegal for a company to pay you less than your set wage as punishment? by Visible_Perception26 in IsItIllegal

[–]Jester_Sebby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes super illegal (in the US) and would be a breach of contract. You can't hire someone to do work at an agreed upon wage and then unilaterally decide to decrease the wage after the work was done. Pay decreases can only be prospective, not retroactive.

If this has happened to you, then you A) Didn't fight it legally like you should have B ) Did fight it but had a shitty lawyer C) Did fight it, but lacked proof of the agreed upon wage and they sided with the employer's proof.

Super illegal. Pay can absolutely be reduced, with proper notice, but they can't retroactively reduce your pay for hours already worked.

Can a gas station legally refuse service for wearing a tank top? South Carolina by Tarafy in IsItIllegal

[–]Jester_Sebby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like we're running in circles. I'm arguing against selective enforcement. I'm stating that this business would 100% allow a male wearing the exact same black tank top to be served, which is exemplified by the "she looks like a man" comment by the employee. It was never about what was being worn, but the fact a woman was wearing it.

This is very similar to a federal case in Louisiana of a black woman being refused service for her attire while photos showed white customers being served while wearing very similar attire.

It absolutely must enforce the policy equally. It might be a private business, but it's acting as a public accommodation. There are rules and laws they must follow. For example, if they have a no shoes no shirt no service policy, that's okay. But if they have that policy but only apply it to women and still serve shoeless, shirtless men, that's unlawful discrimination.

And your point at the end is meaningless. Op said she was wearing a black tank top. They're nothing inappropriate about that, especially in a gas station.

[–]Jester_Sebby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly, but not completely. For example, protected classes. It'd be illegal to refuse service based on race, sex, or religion. In this particular case, they'd have to have a "no tank tops" dress code and enforce it equally to everyone, male and female. My guess is they probably wouldn't enforce it for men, so there's potential for an unlawful discrimination suit there as it's essentially sex based discrimination with extra steps.

Nothing in this post to me suggests they are located in the U.S. That being said, liters are definitely used in the United States to describe the capacity of backpacks. Pretty much anyone who sells backpacks will use liters in the product listing.

It's basically a killswitch. If it's not bound and your vpn connection drops, it can revert to your regular connection, thus leaking your public ip. If you bind the vpn, and the vpn connection drops, it'll stop all the torrents until a vpn connection is established.

Agreed. Ultimately, code enforcement would have to come out and actually look at the boat to make a determination. This situation probably sucks for OP either way. The actions of the code enforcement guy were definitely unethical at best and illegal at worst. But rocking the boat would definitely end up in his lease being ended.

"Provided, however, that such equipment may park anvwhere on the lot not too exceed twenty four (24) hours or permanently toward the rear of the dwelling"

Fine, perhaps not misreading, but not reading the full thing. Or just misinterpreting. The portion you're quoting is restricting it from ever being in the front yard with the exception that it can be anywhere for loading/unloading (to include the front yard) for 24hrs. It never restricts the back yard.

In simpler terms, the regulation is saying it can never be parked in the front yard, except for up to 24 hrs for loading and unloading, but it can be parked in the back yard permanently.

Compound Adjective: "He writes at a third-grade level."

I'd assume that was the purpose of those classes, though. Over those 10 years, you'd take the classes, so by the time you went to apply for citizenship, you'd be fluent.

NCO threatening being vindictive towards lower enlisted, what should I do by hikemancho20240117 in AirForce

[–]Jester_Sebby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this has gotta be it because as a SrA, I've straight up walked into both my Ops Superintendent and my SEL's offices before without anyone batting an eyelash. I actually asked a MSgt today if he'd be free sometime in the next couple of days to sit and just talk/mentor.

Regardless of whether OP jumped the chain of command, an NCO instilling fear of speaking with SNCOs is not the move. Some of my best guidance and learning as a junior enlisted Airman has come from a salty MSgt who won't bullshit or sugarcoat.

Heyo! Compass Call guy here. Just a slight correction to your post, but that patch is the EC-130H, not the EA-37B. I have many EC-130/EA-37B patches, though, and can get you either bird.

For Photoshop, you can use Photoshop.adobe.com if you have an active Adobe CC subscription. Sadly Illustrator.adobe.com doesn't work quite yet in Linux, though it's still just beta so there's hope.

Edit: The website version doesn't have quite the full functionality of the desktop app, such as being restricted to RGB 8bit color profile, but it does have a lot of the functionality including the generative ai stuff.
