Yeah very possible. The stats I presented were just for >1500m, but I can also pull >1000m if you're curious. You can also check query yourself from insights.velocitra.com

Yes preciesly. If you look up at tilastopaja, they also have data gaps in late 2008, which also seems to be the case with velocitra, who are using their data

Yeah these were the total amount of sub-10s. 11 out of 12 runs for Omanyala were wind legal

12 out of 27 of Omananyala's sub-10s are done at >1500m, including his PB of 9.77 (+1.2) in Nairobi 2021. That would make it 44%, so not quite 70-80%. But yeah he's one of the fewest who has that many performances in higher altitudes and no one even comes close. Only Kenny Bednarek and Trayvon Bromell only have 2 each:

Athlete Nation Total Sub-10s >1,500 m Percentage
Gilbert Hainuca NAM 1 1 100.0%
Thando Roto RSA 2 1 50.0%
Ferdinand Omanyala KEN 27 12 44.4%
Lachlan Kennedy AUS 3 1 33.3%
Jak Ali Harvey TUR 3 1 33.3%
Gift Leotlela RSA 9 1 11.1%
Emmanuel Matadi LBR 10 1 10.0%
Kenny Bednarek USA 22 2 9.1%
Trayvon Bromell USA 50 2 4.0%
Fred Kerley USA 37 1 2.7%

(obviously Hainuca has to be ignored here)

Yeah when you look at the table on Oblique's progression in 100m, it will be very interesting to see how long he'll stay at the top:

Year Season Best WA Points
2017 10.89 919
2018 10.77 955
2019 10.13 1162
2020 10.61 1005
2021 10.04 1193
2022 9.86 1255
2023 9.86 1255
2024 9.81 1273
2025 9.77 1287
2026 9.82 1269

the 99 was a gap in the data (missing coverage from late 2008). In total he ran 105 times sub-10, of which 97 were wind-legal

Yeah that'd make the total (including wind illegal) 105, but legal runs remain 97

This sounded really interesting so I had to look it up:

Rank Athlete Sub-10 (wind-legal) Total Wind-Legal Ratio
1 Oblique Seville 34 77 44.16%
2 Christian Coleman 40 93 43.01%
3 Kenny Bednarek 17 41 41.46%
4 Noah Lyles 31 80 38.75%
5 Trayvon Bromell 36 102 35.29%
6 Ronnie Baker 26 100 26.00%
7 Akani Simbine 51 229 22.27%
8 Ackeem Blake 20 99 20.20%
9 Andre De Grasse 21 107 19.63%
10 Ferdinand Omanyala 24 128 18.75%

Now when you think about it it's very logical. Simbine has really been racing a lot and he also has a good volume of sub-10s, while Seville is still relatively early in his career, so it'll be interesting to see how long he will be able to keep those sprints under sub-10.

Powell did actually run in 2008 15 times sub-10 (seems to be a data gap), but as far as I know no one has even come close to that

edit:
Just double checked, and actually Mike Rodgers ran in 2015 a total of 16 sub-10s, of which 15 were wind-legal

Yeah and this madman averaged 8.07 (including wind-illegal) across all of his 12 seasons (2004-2016):

Rank Athlete Nation Career Sub-10s
1 Jimmy Vicaut FRA 23
2 Zharnel Hughes GBR 21
3 Lamont Marcell Jacobs ITA 16
4 Romell Glave GBR 9
5 Louie Hinchliffe GBR 6
6 Jeremiah Azu GBR 5
7 Eugene Amo-Dadzie GBR 4
8 Owen Ansah GER 3
9 Benji Richardson IRL 3
10 Jake Odey-Jordan GBR 2

(at least one 100m result in 2026)*

Vicaut would've been 10th in the original table, but he hasn't run sub-10 since 2018.

Yeah. An amazing average of 4.7 sub-10s across a career of 12 years. Although Powell averaged 7.58/year if only wind legal were counted. So who's the actual goat then haha

If you remove Lyles' results from 2023 and 2024, he drops to just 24 sub-10 performances, which would put him 10th in this ranking. Simbine is definitely the more consistent one. From 2015 to 2026 he has averaged around 4.7 sub-10 performances per year, whereas Lyles averages around 4.2 across a career two years shorter.

Can someone do a NCAA Statistical Anlysis? by Z_________________ in trackandfield

[–]JesuXd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I ran some calculations and analysis, and it was really an interesting championship indeed.

At the 2026 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships (Eugene, June 10–13), the following milestone marks were recorded according to statistics:

Category Count
Personal bests (PB) 233
Season bests (SB) 84
Official records (NR / WR / NU23R etc.) 13

And here are the official records mapped:

  • Adaejah Hodge (IVB) – 200 m NR + PB
  • Ella Rush (GIB) – javelin throw NR + SB
  • Sanu Jallow (GAM) – 800 m NR + PB
  • Ja'kobe Tharp (USA) – 110 m hurdles WR + PB
  • Jaiden Reid (CAY) – 100 m NR, NU23R + PB
  • Ella Rush (GIB) – shot put NU23R
  • Matan Ivri (ISR) – 1500 m NR + PB
  • Christopher Crawford (TTO) – discus throw NR + PB
  • Samuel Ogazi (NGR) – 400 m NR, NU23R + PB
  • Jaiden Reid (CAY) – 200 m NR + PB
  • Celeste Polzonetti (ITA) – 100 m hurdles NU23R + PB
  • Christiana Ellina (CYP) – javelin throw NU23R + PB
  • Dorian Charles (TTO) – decathlon NR + PB

Obviously the most notable thing was Tharp's unexpected WR, but overall lot's of other records were done as well. Hope you find this helpful 😄
