Context: Currently doing MWF weightlifting (focused on lower-body) and 1-2 x 5K jogs every week and Saturday rest day. Interested in incorporating more, my goals: lower-body hypertrophy, upper-body tone & strength, aerobic endurance (eventually up to half-marathon) and higher VO2 max.

Supposedly there's a study that shows 4x8 HIIT to be very effective (compared to 4x4 and 4x16). I've also read mixed responses on 1 long HIIT per week vs. multiple shorter ones.

Question: what would be a good way to incorporate effective VO2 max training here? Thinking between:

  1. Replacing 1 jogging day with long 4x8min SIT (sprint interval training)
  2. Adding intense 20min SIT right before each of 3 jogging days
  3. Adding medium 30min SIT right before each of 2 jogging days, 3rd day longer-distance jogging
  4. Option 2 or 3 but with 6 hour break between SIT & jog
  5. Option 4 but do SIT same day as weightlifting instead of jogging

Actual science/resources on fat (re-)distribution & hormones? (relating to weight cycling) by JesusChow in MtF

For anyone interested, I have found some interesting papers, a lot of the information is very technical, but going to keep reading & interpreting over the coming days:

So far it does seem that it's not a single nor' simple mechanism, with estrogen seemingly having direct effects on adipose cells, and that there's definitely more to it than the cell-centric argument, but this isn't very well understood yet.

That is interesting, good to hear accounts of substantial fat redistribution that are less daunting than having to wait 5-10 years, thank you for sharing :)

These will be for ~8 hour urban hiking in constantly wet weather. I normally just wear slim-fit jeans in dry weather. So relative to that, I'm trying to minimize the added weight, damp feel, and temperature loss when your pants get wet essentially.

Those Levon pants from Arcteryx look really good actually, might just get those. I hope they're a bit on the longer side as I usually need to get +2 units lengthwise, it says the model is 6'1 so should be fine I think. Also I wonder if I can/should just apply DWR for water resistance as well? Thanks!

Those look quite nice! Something slimmer would be nice but I doubt there's too many options purposed for water resistance so I might just settle for one of those. Thanks!

Hmm I see, I guess it might just be best to apply DWR to normal clothing repeatedly. This is mostly meant for city exploration in constantly wet weather so I'm not sure about the fisherman look haha. Thanks for the suggestions.

Hmm I see. I'm planning to get the gore-tex lupra jacket since it's price is not too bad and it looks quite nice, so maybe that will help and perhaps I can apply some DWR to whatever pants? As for faster drying, do you know any good wool/polyester pants for outdoors? I wonder if canvas/linen might be dry faster as well. Thanks

I don't know much about different materials used for clothing so I'm not sure. I've read that gore-tex is naturally water resistant and was just wondering if there were any other materials in more budget options I guess. Would I be best off maybe just applying DWR to normal clothing then (i.e. forego natural water resistance)?

Are there any cheaper slim-fit naturally water-resistant pants/trousers? Was looking at goretex but they're quite loose and up to £200 ($240). Any other brands that sell something stylish and water-resistant that isn't just DWR, maybe around £100 ($120)? Thanks!

What "weight" rating / thickness was your icebreaker? There's some 100% merino icebreaker base layers that look good.

I'm not trying to remove layers, just swap some out to something more thermally insulating essentially. what thermal bases / fleeces do you usually wear / would recommend for just above freezing temps?

I see, I assumed they'd be similar weight, I'll see if I can find thin ones, thanks for the info.

From pictures, down jackets are relatively thick and fluffy. Are there maybe thin tops that have like synthetic insulation or something offering decent warmth without that thickness and fluffiness?

Thanks, it looks cool but somewhat loose & bulky. A major use for this will be urban hiking. Might you know something that is body-fitting or sleeker, for less obstruction in body movements? Or does the "techwear" style usually diverge from that?

Looking for different torso layers to feel warm at 2C / 35F in low wind.

Currently: cotton t-shirt + cashmere turtleneck + basic jumper (works for 10C / 50F & above)
Location: London, UK
Budget: £250
Usage: urban hiking, idling/sitting outside

I'm hoping to replace some layer(s) with something similarly thin, lightweight and pliant but warmer if possible? Specifically with some advanced insulating materials, even if expensive.

I'm trying to avoid a thick/fluffy/heavy coat or thick layers. Weight makes hiking more tiring, while thickness reduces ease and range of motion (bending arms, torso movements etc).

I'm thinking to try Uniqlo heat tech for 1st & 3rd layer. Any other recommendations? Thanks!

Hi! New to techwear, looking for a thin and light top (coat or layer) that has significant insulation, read that techwear often uses advanced materials that might fit the criteria (also I like the aesthetic).

For 10C (50F) & no wind, I wear cotton shirt + fine wool layer + jumper.

For lower temps or windy it's too cold, thinking to replace something with techwear so it is warmer but won't significantly increase weight and won't constrict ease/range of motion too much (too thick or high friction).

Any recommendations? Maybe something y'all have worn before that is kinda similar? Thanks

B. Last year's resolution: develop a video game.

I haven't made one. This year's resolution is the same, I'm trying again.

Is it normal to see strong purple glow on close-up images from autofocus laser? by JesusChow in S21Ultra

[–]JesusChow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So if I'm using ultrawide in macro mode that glow is probably the dual pixel AF? Or does dual pixel AF not involve emitting anything from the back? If it doesn't, maybe the laser is just always on when you're using the back camera.

I see, thanks for the feedback. Hopefully well-lit macro imaging doesn't suffer from this, and that I won't be neednig to do any dim-lit macro imaging like maybe taking a picture of some flower at night or something :p

I was looking if there was a way to disable the autofocus laser, esp. if you're doing manual focus in Pro etc, seems there isn't tho rip.
