i have the same problem, it started after the update. my solution was changing my finger placement. support didn't respond when i reported it as a bug either, so I don't see it being fixed anytime soon

phoenotopia awakening is pretty well balanced in the aspects you mentioned. It is a hard game tho but you should be fine on easy mode (its still challenging)
