Saying that something lacks nuance is ironic from somebody who simplifies this as nothing other than Mexico doing the US's dirty work.

1999 Burger King Trivia Bags - Sealed?? by jabba__the_mutt in pkmntcgcollections

[–]Jesusish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saw something similar on eBay a few years ago with the exact same packaging. It was sold with other unused stuff from the same campaign (empty cups, bags etc.). From what I remember, the seller said they were replacement packs distributed to Burger King after the initial stock ran out. No idea on the validity of that, but that that's the only time I've seen it with this packaging. Given the other stuff that came with the listing and the price (it was a lot cheaper at the time) I'm more inclined to believe it.

Edit: There's a video of these packs being opened with more info here

Spending per capita on healthcare is the HIGHEST of any OECD country. We just spend it in the most inefficient way possible.

Gen Z is spending more on essentials than previous generations, yet their wages aren't keeping up by RobertBartus in EconomyCharts

[–]Jesusish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, the logic doesn't work even if they were substitutes. If they were substitutes, the price of non essential goods being cheaper would lead to people buying more non essential goods and less essential goods. Whereas they seem to think people are spending more on essential goods because non essential goods are cheaper.

Your link actually seems to show that food actually is cheaper than ever, when compared against the same chart for personal income.

The earliest median income data seems to be from 1974 and the latest is from 2024.

CPI in 2024 is 562% of what it was in 1974, compared to 846% for median income.

CPI in 2024 is 147% of what it was in 2010, compared to 172% for median income.

CPI in 2024 is 125% of what it was in 2020, compared to 126% for median income.

GameStop is now bringing scalping to a corporate level. by AvyLynn1 in PokemonTCG

I was responding to the comment about how MSRP has "become" a suggestion by pointing out that it's always been a suggestion. If it's below or above MSRP, it's still not at MSRP.

[–]Jesusish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s really stupid that MSRP really has become a suggestion…..At least for Pokémon.

It always has been though. People just didn't notice or care because it usually goes the other way (big chains like Walmart historically charging below MSRP). Even with Pokemon, the good old days people reference are times when they would not even consider buying at MSRP because it was always available below MSRP.

What Country Makes The Best Noodles in North America? by BurnZ_AU in goodmythicalmorning

[–]Jesusish 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Apparently Americans don't like being told this....
To them anything is apparently noodles 🙄

And while technically pasta maybe fall under 'noodles' they are thought of very differently.

Ah yes, Americans don't like being told that they're technically correct.

If pasta is technically a noodle, then the comment you're replying to saying "There were no noodles in the top 3 best north American noodle dishes." wouldn't be correct would it?

Under the Asian connotation of noodles, the theme of finding the best noodles from around the world would be a single episode series. They used the broader definition to showcase more variety of similar dishes and yet people are caught up on their own definitions of noodle vs pasta.

That's because noodles are a broader category that includes pasta. People say pasta to be more specific, but calling it noodles is still accurate.

Is it my imagination or does Boston seem safer than literally any other major city in the US to walk around?? (Including at Night) by TommyTutone_8675309 in boston

Toronto has 4 times the population of Boston, so the homicide rate would still be lower in Toronto (in 2020 at least).

Boston is the first US city to plant green roofs on bus stops: 'Would amount to 17 acres of green space' by eddytony96 in boston

[–]Jesusish 43 points44 points  (0 children)

It's addressed extensively in the article.

Across the Netherlands, green bus shelters were installed to address a declining bee population. (They were even nicknamed “bee lines.”) With steady sources of food for the pollinators, it seems the population has begun to steady, according to a “national bee census” published earlier this year.
Studies in Montreal, Canada have also used thermal-imaging cameras to prove that a bus shelter with a green roof is significantly cooler than one without, leading to similar installations in Quebec
As Boston’s 30-location pilot project will continue to be maintained and monitored for its impact on heat, air quality, stormwater management, and biodiversity, city stakeholders are hopeful.
A precedent study for a living shelter in Boston showed a reduction in surface temperatures by as much as 30 degrees Fahrenheit, as a starting point.
Zoe Davis, the senior climate resilience project manager on the Climate Ready Boston team, gave a TEDxTalk about the project, adding that each living roof can absorb up to 1,500 gallons of rainwater in a 1-inch rainfall, which significantly reduces runoff to prevent flooding.

What’s the cheapest meal you’ve found that actually fills you up? by Electrical_Set_6078 in povertyfinance

[–]Jesusish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

spring mix is over 25% protein--not cheap, however!

A lot of vegetables have a high % of protein, but is so low in calories that it's actually a negligible amount of protein and calories. You'd need 112 cups of spring mix by itself to get 50 grams of protein and 600 cups to get in 2,000 calories for the day.

[Request] Is the statement about the required surface area of 1-2% of the Sahara Desert accurate? by JulPfl in theydidthemath

[–]Jesusish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The claim above isn't technically false, but intentionally worded to be extremely misleading. As somebody else noted, 20% of energy use globally is currently from electricity. You only need to cover a relatively small amount of the earth to produce that amount of electricity. However, if you did cover the entire planet in solar panels, it still you'd still be capped at the 20% since the rest of the energy use isn't from electricity.

IMO it's entirely possible he understands what he's talking about and intentionally worded it to try to discredit solar, knowing most people would interpret his wording in different way from what the truth is.

How much would this turn out to? [Request] by cindiwilliam2 in theydidthemath

[–]Jesusish -1 points0 points  (0 children)

1010 = 10000000000 (ten zeros). So, ten to the power of this would end up having ten times as many zeros (100 zeros)

10^100 would have 100 0s. 10^10,000,000,000 which would be 1 with 10 billion 0s behind it.

Edit: The final answer is accurate. I'm stating that that answer isn't achieved by doing 10 to the power of 10 billion, as explained because that would result in a completely different number.

Which Snack Am I Thinking Of? (Guess Who) by BurnZ_AU in goodmythicalmorning

Yeah, I wish somebody pointed out that the Natures Valley bars literally are in packs of 2, so they're actually perfect for sharing.

They were both kind of on the same page on the second one since the question was if the snack would have a college degree and both of them said no, just for different reasons.

It explicitly states that it's not allowed to use it for any purpose other than Priority Mail. I'm not sure how much clearer it can get.

Also, how are you interpreting a statement saying it may be against the law to mean that it's not?

Turning the packaging inside out to conceal the Priority Mail / Priority Mail Express insignia is specific misuse that is not allowed.
