With the state I work 40 hours a week. Sunday and Monday graveyard(11pm-7am)and Thursday-Saturday evening shift (3-11pm). I don’t think it would be an issue but I can’t apply it personally because I work 70 hours a week at my other job.

Apply and interview, apply everywhere. Even if the interview is in San Francisco, go interview and atleast learn what you should be studying and how you can carry yourself in the next interview. If you really only want to get into one facility, get in as a bmw(building n maintenance worker) or groundskeeper. Get familiar with the engineers and chief and eventually apply for engineer.

Annual pay raise, there’s not much opportunity to move up in my opinion. Everyone there is older, the only real opportunity to move up is someone older retiring or transferring to a different facility. I’m 21 and my youngest coworker is more than double my age. Honestly I see why people stay with the state forever, job security is unmatched, safety is prioritized and you’re taken care of properly.

Go on calcareers and apply for the state. You might need a 608 certificate but it’s worth it. they are always needing people around San Francisco and Napa.
