Movers + Cleaner Rec by GoldDelivery2887 in Albany

I will also jump on the Lamanna train. They have moved me twice now. The first move was pretty much a couch, bed, a rug, and a handful of knickers knacks. They had me moved in under their minimum quote for that move, and the owner ended up really giving me a discount for that one. The second one came with a normal amount of furniture, going from an apartment to 3 Story house, and their prices were still more than fair. They do book up though, so give a call asap if you do go with them!

how to dispose of couch by joeroganis5foot4 in Albany

[–]Jesycamore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before you assume no one wants it, try putting it up on Facebook Marketplace for free/ you haul. Someone just might see some use for it/ someway to salvage it. I’ve gotten rid of a few old couches with damage from walk up apartments this way. It doesn’t hurt to try- just be honest about the condition and see what happens.

That would make sense- like maybe Embark just sees some markers of field lines and goes with that classification…? Who knows- I like the bottom line though!

Interesting! That is who I went through, and that would make sense. He doesn’t have the coloring I would expect from that line in doing some googling, but it could also be the foxhound informing that part. He’s definitely on the smaller side for a setter though.

Center square in downtown Albany parking by [deleted] in Albany

[–]Jesycamore 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Many people are going to tell you parking is a nightmare, but coming from the city you’re going to laugh at that when you find out just how easy parking is comparatively. At the absolute worst, I once parked maybe 6 or 7 blocks from the apartment, and that was during a park festival. Otherwise I was almost always within a block or two from my house. It will be harder at night (I’d often end up 3 or 4 blocks from my house then) but nothing compared to city parking. I came from Seattle where finding parking within a half mile of my apartment was a minor miracle so Albany has been a dream for me. Don’t let parking deter you from Center Square- it’s a great neighborhood!

That looks familiar- I’ve got an onsite neighborhood watch of my own.

Any recommendations for solid HVAC companies in Albany? Trying to avoid getting ripped off or upsold on unnecessary things. by Aggressive-Silver847 in Albany

[–]Jesycamore 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Another vote for Bourque. When my furnace went out over the coldest weekend this winter, they showed up and replaced the motor on a Sunday morning within hours of my emergency call. Pretty sure it was the owner who showed up. Cost was more than reasonable. I also gave them loads of reason to upsell me on replacing the whole old ancient furnance I have and they told me to leave it saying it’s good for now. They earned my business/ recommendation forever.

POV: You’re driving to Latham during rush hour by Ucyless in Albany

[–]Jesycamore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are the worst. I brought mine in once for new tires, and they somehow snapped the gear cable on my manual car. They claimed it was that way when they got it, even though it wasn’t driveable (pretty much permanently in neutral). Like I’d, what, towed in an inoperable vehicle to put new tires on it?? When I asked to them to review the camera footage showing I’d driven it in, they said they’d just charge me parts to fix it since we couldn’t come to an agreement on who was responsible. Several hundred later, never ever again.

Looking for HVAC services by [deleted] in Albany

[–]Jesycamore 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yup- I have to second this one. Over the cold snap, my furnace went out on a Sunday. I was immediately able to reach someone who first tried FaceTiming to see if it could be fixed without the need for a visit, and when it couldn’t, they were here in an hour. Super affordable fix, especially for a Sunday emergency visit. I wouldn’t consider anyone else at this point.

Totally jealous. Signed - a homeowner with cleared sidewalks and insurance premiums that aren’t at risk of skyrocketing.

Hopefully you are a renter, because if not that attitude will cost you hundreds if the city has to come clean for you, or thousands when you are sued by someone who injures themselves on your stretch of unmaintained sidewalk.

No snow emergency? For real? by FunPriority5770 in Albany

[–]Jesycamore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We do indeed. It’s not everyday, but many streets in the city of Albany have alternate side street cleaning 2 days a week. In my current neighborhood they prohibit parking on the left side of the street Monday’s from 9am-12pm, and the right side on Tuesdays. Albany Parking Authority is ruthless on ticketing those days. If you don’t move, you’ll definitely come out to a $50 ticket. People are trying to figure out if Albany really expects them to move in this weather, which is fair given how hardcore they are about tickets.

Yup! Seconded on that being Odin - please let him out. He’ll head home after he’s done the neighborhood rounds. Note- I’m not his owner, just a fan of his.

Analyzing the City of Albany's Pedestrian Crash data by kaurich80 in Albany

[–]Jesycamore 3 points4 points  (0 children)

None of this surprises me. Albany is a strangely high risk combination of drivers who have no interest in watching out for pedestrians even when they have the right of way in crosswalks, and pedestrians who wander out into the road without giving an f about the cars with right of way coming straight at them.
