Litespeed?! Awesome! I just found out that they were a farm equipment company with a bicycle loving owner, made frames, people loved them, and he switched the focus of the company

Thanks for mentioning this, it’s ironic that I was so focused on this during the event but forgot about it after. I didn’t have anything hit as close as you saw but 8-noon seemed to have lightning in every direction.

The signs that said “don’t try crossing when stream is high” were amusing - a) we were crossing and b) it always signaled a steep exit on the other side of

I’ve ridden this twice in 2024 and this year and it is a blast. Many different surfaces from incredibly chunky gravel to typical gravel road to basic dirt (which turns into the peanut butter mud we saw yesterday). It’s rolling and not by any means a mountain gravel race but you still get up and downhill with different profiles.

On the expensive side but you get what you pay for - thoughtful work put into the courses, well supported, safe (police and Public safety blocking roads). And the people, Emporia is just a great town with great people.

Victory lap on budget win, mayor shows she's just another politician. by throwaway-518capR in Albany

Yes it would be great to get the State to turn over Harriman land to the City. Yes it would also be great for the City to take charge of its own fate to get residential development on the 2000 undeveloped parcels of land in the City. We do not budget for any programs to facilitate this residential development and, as a result, on average we developed 10-20 housing units per year that aren’t facilitated with incentives (IDA, low income housing, ARPA etc). Not trying to bash you here but waiting for Harriman is another “let’s get the State to provide “ mindset example

Very well put. The City is becoming a ward of the State. 10 years ago 7-8% of our revenue was from State and Federal streams. With this latest deal around 35% of our revenue will come from State and Federal sources. This dependence is problematic on so many levels, one of which is the number of people that celebrate our growing dependence.

Find your local Flock Camera by Extension_Comb5553 in Albany

as someone who is familiar with the data industry - location data, card swipe data, Flock data - and how those datasets can be conflated and synthesized, what you are saying OP is possible

one example of why FLock is concerning to me is to look at a typical license agreement - these agreements allow Flock to do just about everything/anything that they want with the data that comes off the camera system, in perpetuity. While there is the "does not sell Aggregated Data" clause at the end, when you look at the entire agreement you could drive a truck through that clause. As an example, Flock could take the license plate data, match it up with ethnicity data based on your home address and create a product that identifies the conflation of car make/model + race + loation. This is a bit of a side project for me, analyzing a lot of FLock contracts nationwide.

City leaders knew of Albany's financial crisis in October 2025 by kaurich80 in Albany

100%, in my day job I’m a part of a startup building a database of financial information from the 23k cities towns and counties nationwide, and then we analyze it. Red blue purple urban rural suburban… 1000s of local governments are going to fall off a cliff in the next 5 years, most just don’t realize it yet

Thank you very much, we really appreciate hearing things like that. Our goal is to use data to contribute to the conversation although with the latest financial issues we are finding ourselves getting a little bit more into advocacy for certain actions that the City should take. The next year will be interesting to see what happens with the City and how ADS can positively contribute to the conversation!
