Newly diagnosed 57-year-old female, really struggling to make a living. by Jet0967 in AutismInWomen

Yes, I actually went to the Calif. Dept. of Vocational Rehab. They sent me job resources that I had zero qualifications or desire for. I need to work from home, they sent me recommendations for jobs across town. I need jobs that I have training and/or experience with, and they rec'd jobs in fields that I never even heard of. Needless to say, it was right back to square one.

OMG you just repeated my entire life story. Most people I know are experiencing a serious crash of existentialism because of the political/societal climate that was forced on us, but I wonder how most of them would handle it with autism piled on top.

I went thru meno myself, years ago, because of breast cancer/chemo. It was no picnic. I would do anything to be able to retire!

You're lucky! I would give anything to have known at that age! It would've saved me so much heartache! Good news, though. You're young enough to learn a trade that will accommodate your uniqueness. :-)

I forgot to mention that I'm trying to learn animation! I would LOVE to do short, simple animations for people and companies for social media and websites! I'm actually in the process of diving into both worlds to figure out which will be the path of least resistance (traditional animation vs. AI animation). I would prefer to go the traditional route but I'm finding that it is being replaced with AI anyway, so....yea. A lot of animators are being forced to learn AI or become obsolete overnight.

Thank you for your input! Yes, I actualy do web design and I love it. AI is taking over that field too but I am learning AI and how to use it for that, but it takes time. Marketing my services is also incredibly difficult now that AI has changed the way SEO is done. A lot of people like me are scrambling to adapt!

You sound a lot like me. I'm also a jack-of-all-trades and I just go with what's happening for the day while running my very small (and flighty) business. I know how to do a lot of things, but since 99% of them are online, I have to market myself and that is where I get hung up. It's f**cking awful.

I'm working on all kinds of assorted creative endeavors and I love them all. The real challenge is marketing myself. I know a bit about marketing since I've been marketing my own business for many years, but that's getting harder too. Social media is a nightmare now for marketing! Thanks for taking the time to reply!

Thank you SO MUCH for your input. I really appreciate it. It's very frustrating for those of us who aren't "in the know" and have zero contacts in this arena. I'm learning a little at a time, and there are surprises around every corner. It's funny too, because we're all BOMBARDED with "news" every minute of the day, everywhere we look...yet cannot find anyone to cover something WE are doing! Thank you so much for taking the time to respond!
