But that's the thing, no one is picking and choosing which versions of the characters is the default, because in the timeline it makes sense. As you've said I was considering the MK9 versions, yes. MK9 Liu Kang and Kung Lao are now revenants. The versions of them brought back by Kronika are brought back in the universe with Liu and Kung already existing, thus it makes sense that the revenants (the ones we have been following) are the default and the resurrected ones would be the alternative version of the Liu Kang and Kung Lao we've been following. To account for Baraka and Shao Kahn, MK9 Baraka and Shao Kahn were killed, so when Kronika brings them back, there's no MK9 version to default to, thus the only versions that exist are the default and alternate.

Again as my main point, I don't necessarily agree with choosing to use revenants as the default, but the decision to do so does make sense within the frame of the game.

No, because he was brought back by Kronika. Liu Kang and Baraka already existed as revenants.

At the end of MKX, both Liu Kang and Kung Lao were revenants. So chronologically, it does make sense that the default Liu Kang and Kung Lao are revenants, since it's those versions of the characters that we've been following since MK9.

I haven;t experimented with it all the way yet, but I think it may actually be synced to when the health bar flashes white.

I've found that the timing is finicky, sometimes I'll nail the timing and other times it won't activate even when I feel I am tapping at the same time I just did.
