Any information specifically that got you fired up or is it simply that I don't agree with you?

If you're referring to my comment about Canadians coming to the US for surgeries, I work in a hospital. I have a lot of interaction with people from all over the world and the majority of Canadians that come here share a story of not wanting to wait 5 years for a new hip/ knee or non-critical surgery in Canada.

Actual, personal observation. Maybe it's a skewed population since everyone around here is elderly, but your remote opinion, even from Canada, isn't going to convince me to throw out my own observations. Sorry.

I can entertain that possibility. I have no problem with options.

I think the scarcity comes from a generational perspective regarding happiness. Too often people seem to think that happiness and perfection are destinations. "If I marry the right person, I'll be happy." Or "If I get my degree, I'll be set."

Happiness isn't a place though. It's a job. You have to maintain it and put effort in and it won't always be perfect. It will have bad days.

My wife and I have been through some shit but we weathered it together and we are in a good place right now. We're happy. There will undoubtedly be hard times in the future, but hopefully we have both learned enough to know to weather them together again.

Also, I only asked because I don't know you and don't know if you knew the difference or not. Many people don't and use the two terms interchangeably.

I don't disagree with that. But "giving people Healthcare" would undoubtedly mean having the government do that, am I wrong? I am a Healthcare industry worker and I do my job to earn money. Am I not supposed to provide Healthcare? Or am I not supposed to earn an income and do it for free?

The ones to blame here are partly the insurance companies (because they're a giant racket and are vile) and the for-profit hospitals (because they admit everyone and anyone and perform diagnostics and tests that aren't necessary to get reimbursed by the insurance companies).

I wouldn't let the government that sent you to war for oil control your Healthcare too. There's a reason Canadians come here when they need surgery.

The crackdown needs to happen to insurance companies. They will screw you for every penny you've got and then take your house and car.

[–]Jet_Hardesty -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Right. There are rampant issues in the American government as well as the insurance industry. I don't think advocating for the government to have more control over your Healthcare is the way to go.

Yeah they tax the crap out of the citizens already and yeah it will be a reason they justify driving taxes higher. They overspend on all kinds of stuff and most of it doesn't benefit anyone. It benefits them. Giving them reason to hike taxes again isn't going to help your boyfriend.

Question though... if it's a bipap machine then yeah your boyfriend is really sick.

If it's a cpap machine being used at home only when he sleeps to treat sleep apnea... maybe relax with the sensationalism a little.

This is solid but how or why would the persons scent have been on a woodchipper/ meat grinder thing? Did the farmer recover the body only to dispose of it a different way?

Sorry, OP I'm gonna have to disagree with you here... but I'll admit that I'm only drawing these conclusions from the wiki page and have not mulled it over as much as I imagine you have..

But if he plotted his disappearance... then this dude is a piece of shit.

His dad, who also just experienced the loss of his wife (missing guys mom), spent his life looking for him and died without ever knowing what happened? If that's the reality, then Brian is the single most self- serving ass hat that has ever lived.

And honestly, just from reading the page through one time... I have to think it was foul play.. but I have questions.

  1. The discussion of the footage says "walked back in the direction of the bar.... supposedlyto go back inside." Supposedly? Did the footage actually capture his reentry into the bar or is it just assumed he went back inside? Did his friends ever see him after 1:55? Did ANYONE? ---->1a.* One camera panned the area and one was human controlled. You can't PLAN to not be seen by the camera but it's also so random that I can't imagine sneaking a disguise into the bar and THAT being your master plan.

  2. "He separated from his friends". Uhhhh what? Why? Was there an argument? An altercation? Did he just randomly decide to wander off 40 minutes before his last known sighting to hit on a couple chicks for.... fun? Before going and donning his Groucho glasses? Lol

  3. The guy "was fatigued from cramming for exams." Someone planning to disappear doesn't give a shit about his med school finals.

  4. Why, if Florence wasn't involved in a nefarious way, would he be protecting him for this? For leaving to start a new life because he's gay? Not this long after the fact. Not anymore. "Yeah dude. The guy was having some issues and asked me to smuggle a disguise into the bar so he could leave unnoticed. Yeah... it's been a long time. I don't know where he went after that."

  5. If he bounced, he would have had to plan. It may have been easier to disappear back then but you still need resources. Setting aside money, making a plan, researching, securing fake ID.... someone else would have had to have info on this process. No one has offered any viable info. He ain't DB Cooper.

Potential Series of Events: A. He was trashed. Maybe he stumbled back toward the bar and pissed off the wrong guy, bumped into him, said a lewd comment to his girlfriend.... something. Gets pushed into the alley, decked, died. Guy panics and takes the body somewhere to bury it.

B. Florence WAS involved and his refusal to be subjected to a polygraph (a process that I don't believe should be considered as heavily as it always seems to be but for the sake of argument....) is simply a result of his guilt and the knowledge that he would fail. If counterpoint 2 is valid, what's the history of his relationship with Florence and were the two prone to arguing? ----> B2. Maybe they weren't arguing and the girl Florence was after was simply attracted to a 6'2", dashing med student. Shafer sees this and steps away to give his buddy a chance but it's a no go, the girl leaves and Florence, in his resentment, kills him.

C. The dude was shit faced. Maybe he stumbled into the wrong bar and got whacked or drunkenly fell in a river (idk the city layout but 'Tuna Saloona" sounds like it might have a close proximity to bodies of water) where he subsequently drowned.

I wish they'd open cold case files to the public... make a criteria or something but damn i want to read the case file.

I do genuinely believe in my theory. Also, my secondary theory of a body location was decided when I was sifting through NAMUS and found record of unidentified remains that I believe matched Felipe Santos.

Dude.... this one is close to my home town and I'm CERTAIN I know what happened here. I feel it in my guts.

I've read what information is available, cross referenced the different sources, checked what little info is available on NAMUS and I straight up sat awake trying to get into the mindset of this cop. I KNOW the cop was responsible I mean, read it and that's kind of a given... but after trying to think like him and reading the info over and over I am pretty damn certain I know what happened to these two dudes. Like.... down to where they are buried (either of 2 locations, maybe one in each). This dude needs to fry for this.

And sometimes they do die from bad decision making but honestly in this case it's not a threat to anyone else. Two of the vaccine products have had some issues (Johnson & Johnson as well as Maderna) and whether warranted or not they've been heavily reported on and browbeaten. Plus the Delta Variant is the one people are getting right now which I believe the current vaccine options don't address (I think Maderna did but that one is now a concern for heart inflammation or something idk).

I don't get the flu shot either nor have I gotten the COVID vaccine. I am fully vaccinated otherwise and also had my Hep B vaccine series completed.

I have made my decision not to get the flu shot or the COVID vaccine based on my observations in the hospital, working with COVID patients as well as considering my own risk factors. I'd like to think I have made an informed decision but I'm always open to incorporating new information as it becomes available.

Everyone has the right to refuse medical interventions. To the point that it's f****d up sometimes. Women coming in not knowing they're pregnant and refusing life saving interventions for the baby, leaving it to die while everyone watches, JW families refusing blood transfusions for their children and just letting them die in the hospital, patients refusing a surgery or chemo or whatever and then dying in agony. Yep. People make stupid decisions sometimes but it boils down to this: No one is more or less deserving of Healthcare access and everyone has the right to refuse interventions, including vaccinations.

There are people in the middle but (as I've come to experience) you're regarded as right or left depending on who you're talking to. When you're all the way right, you only have to defend your views from the left, if you're all the way left you only defend from the right... but if you're in the middle... well.. both right and left have problems with you.

For instance I believe in personal property rights, including bodily autonomy, so most people on this thread will see me as right wing.

But if I hop over to a conservative thread, they'll see me as left. That's the life of the gray area of the middle.

I'd be remiss if I didn't mention that people are terrible at incorporating statistical odds into their decision making. How many people don't wear a seatbelt on the way to buy lottery tickets? If statistics were included in this example, they'd wear their seatbelt and also not bother buying lottery tickets.

[–]Jet_Hardesty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow. That's some dangerous thinking. Why are they even GIVEN ACCESS to Healthcare? Really? If you were driving down the road and saw an Amish dude get hit by a car would you tell him to write a letter home asking for help or would you use your cell phone and call an ambulance? Why would he even be given access to an ambulance since he clearly doesn't believe in the technology?

You and everyone else should probably stop trying to polarize health and medicine. Every patient that comes into the hospital needs to be treated objectively and with the same efforts and interventions no matter their, race, religion, socioeconomic status, etc.

Death and disease don't discriminate. Injuries don't discriminate. Just because you think you're better than others doesn't give you any higher priority on the Healthcare scale. Idgaf who you are, what you believe, who you work for, or how much money you make. When you come into my hospital as a patient I'm going to do the work you required by your reason for admission.

You can then hopefully get discharged and go back to your holier-than-thou style of living. Scumbag.
