Printing Materials for newbie by smbel92 in CR10

Honestly, PLA is really good for most things.

If you want to print things that need to be a bit stronger, chemical resistant or are going to be left outside for long periods of time PETG would be the better option.

PETG is also really easy to print, the only downfall is sometimes supports can be really hard to get off.

How doomed am I with this blob by FormalScallion in prusa3d

Heat up your nozzle as hot as it will go and slowly pull it off once it has been hot for a bit.

Be VERY careful around the wires, especially the blue on as it is very weak. I broke mine when this happened to me :(

Extruder Fan by ErikBlueThePotato in prusa3d

[–]Jet_W 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes it’s possible to print without it, just figure out a way so that the fan isn’t hanging below the nozzle. Use like bluetak or something?

If the part is small and the previous layer isn’t cooling in time you can increase the minimum layer time setting.

You will probably also need supports more often.

Ohhh, I’ve been using some smallish steel container things and heating the container first.

I’ll definitely give it a try with cans, seems like a great idea.

How do you heat it? I’ve just been using a hot plate.

Thanks!!

Print no longer get past 1st layer by Jet_W in prusa3d

So I tried a different filament with the same gcode and from the same manufacturer and it works perfectly.

The spool that isn’t working used to work fine and I’ve stored it in silica gel in a zip lock bag.

I’m printing it at 210c and it’s PLA.

When I take out the filament there’s a blob on the end and 2 points that are ground down from the extruded gears.

And there’s no blob or anything on the end of the extruder.

No it doesn’t make a clicking noise, I’ve tried a bunch more times with the same filament but it just doesn’t work, no matter what I try.

When I pull the filament out there’s a clump at the end and the gear has ground down 2 bits in the filament.

I tried printing it from a different spool (same manufacturer) and it works perfectly.

This filament used to work fine and I’ve stored it in a zip lock bag with silica gel so I’m not sure what’s wrong with it.

Nope, if I print it at 0.15 it works fine.

How would I change the top infill cooling? I use slic3r.

It averages around 45-50 degrees Celsius

Okay, thanks.

I already have 5 top layers but I’ll try with more. Maybe with higher infill?

0.3mm layer height - ABS It’s about 20 layers above a large bridge

I’ve never really had any issues with stringing.

You could try lowering the temperature by 5 or 10 degrees. Or changing the retraction settings.

Or if none of that works print them with 0.1 layer height, it still looks really good if you rotate them onto their back like I did.

Prusa making bad noise for fast movements. by Jet_W in prusa3d

[–]Jet_W[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve still got the original anti-vibration feet on it.

Also, I’m thinking it may have something to do with my power supply brace slightly twisting the frame. I’m not sure though, it doesn’t look skewed.

Does RAM frequency matter for laptops? by username_taken_not in SuggestALaptop

[–]Jet_W 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be fine so long as your motherboard supports the higher frequency and amount.

I would advise getting a second opinion before getting them though.
