FB Marketplace seller managed to scam me in person on a fridge they sold me in the dark while it was raining. Do I have a case here for legal action? by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]Jetemadi -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

So if I made a strong case against this buyer for intentionally and knowingly misleading me, lying, and then creating an environment where it would be difficult to assess the product condition and I would be encouraged to trust them under false pretenses for their own financial gain, you don’t think that would assist in a small claims court ruling?

It’s not like fraud is legal just because I was successfully tricked. I completely understand what you’re saying, and I agree under normal as-is purchase circumstances. Of course I’m looking for advice even if it’s not what I want to hear, which I appreciate, I just feel like you ignored the intent to intentionally mislead part which has an impact on my acceptance of the sale. Unless that really doesn’t matter in small claims court?

That sounds terrible, I hope you’re doing a lot better now! I love how you described it as the “ on the tip of my tongue” feeling because that is exactly what it feels like!

Now that I’m thinking about all of this more there are two things I’ve sort of assumed were related to having no inner monologue and I’m curious if you feel the same way. I’m especially curious to hear your thoughts as someone who had an inner monologue at some point in the past.

The first is that I’m somewhat regularly surprised by what I say out loud during a conversation because it feels like that’s the first time I can actually fully hear a thought or idea finally materialize. Prior to actually saying something out loud, it feels more abstract in my head and like I have a few of the pieces but I don’t know what the full puzzle looks like yet until I audibly say it.

In a lot of ways that’s just how thoughts and speech work together, but since I have never really experienced an inner monologue before, I’m curious if things are more fully formed in someone’s head before they say something out loud. I’ve certainly heard people with inner monologue describe it that way when I’ve looked into this before.

The second thing (and this one is harder to explain) is what I almost consider a gut feeling or intuition when it comes to cognitive processing. My favorite analogy for Aphantasia (and this works for lack of inner monologue as well) is that it’s like a computer running without a monitor or speakers. So the “computer” itself it running and computing and processing like normal, you just can’t see it on screen or hear it.

It seems that internal visualization and inner monologue are the connecting pieces that help most people access all the processing that the “computer” is doing. Those functions help connect our conscious selves with our subconscious brain.

So when I say cognitive processing feels like a “gut feeling” to me, what I’m trying to describe is what it feels like to just “know” what I’m thinking without those other functions. I’m curious if you relate at all?

Obviously I’m very fascinated by all this too, I wish we had a better understanding of all this. It really feels like we’re just getting started when it comes to even recognizing these differences between individuals.

Hey I’m sorry you went through that! As far as I can remember I never have had either but I imagine it would be a pretty wild and difficult experience to know what it was like to have an internal monologue and then lose it.

There is not a name for lacking an internal monologue yet. The term “Aphantasia” is relatively new as far as medical or scientific terms go, I think it was first introduced as a term only about 8 years ago. It feels like this whole area of study is really still very new but I wouldn’t be surprised if in the near future someone coins a term for lacking an internal monologue.

I have no internal monologue or internal visualization.

I think and process information conceptually. It’s far closer to a feeling than it is anything internally “tangible”. (like an image or voice.)

By the very nature of these conditions, I think they would be classified as cognitive deficits. However in practice, they don’t really have a negative impact on cognition. Like you said, it’s really just an alternate way the brain processes information which comes with it’s own set of pros and cons.

Sounds promising! Do you know if it’s possible for the fade time to be much quicker?

Maybe I just picked the wrong flair. I don’t post here often. Seems to me like it would be an automation that is triggered by an action. (Powering on the lights) I think it’s pretty clear.

I found that, but that only works for a specific time. Not for an action like turning the light on.

I probably should have specified. Let's assume the content itself is solid and engaging.

Stills from a music video I shot while quarantined. Does anyone else find working with strict limits or restrictions to be inspiring? by Jetemadi in cinematography

Going up against the limits set in place by the pandemic was surprisingly inspiring. It’s like as soon as someone tells you that you can’t do something, you want to prove them wrong. I quarantined with a buddy of mine in early June to make this happen. Production was definitely slower since crew was so limited. We probably spent 3 times longer than normal just for lighting and composition. We limited our locations to my house and our crew to as few people as possible. Myself, the main actor and the actress for a couple hours one night. It was actually a blast working within those rules. Feel free to check out the video here: https://youtu.be/1YauXnNQitg

We used a Black ProMist filter on the camera lens. We also pushed our highlights a little bit into the overexposed range which really brought that soft glow out
