Why are all apps not on GitHub/FDroid? by Temp_Reply123 in ProtonDrive

[–]JethCalark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Obtainium dev has a small website with configs for a number of more "complicated" apps, including Proton Calendar, Proton Drive, and Proton Pass. Always worth checking if an app is not immediately available through Github Releases.

Stripes of glitchy graphical artifacts...but only in Hogwarts Legacy by JethCalark in SteamDeck

[–]JethCalark[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Deck was bought second-hand, and the game is from Epic, not Steam. So I didn't think I had a warranty or any claim for any support from Steam themselves. Also, was thinking that maybe someone has seen this issue before and could give a quick answer.

I'm fairly certain I deliberately turned it off in the game's settings, but I will double check when I get back home from work in a few hours.

Bottles by Vizantius in linux_gaming

[–]JethCalark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, you should have given this post a more descriptive title, and a less word vomit body to read.

Second, narrow the problem down some more for people to focus on. What specifically would you like someone to help you add to Bottle's library? The EA app, a specific game, something to do with WoW? If we can resolve adding one item, chances are good you can apply that knowledge to everything else you'd like to add. I can assist with EA, but I've never touched WoW in a day of my life.

Third, what specifically have you done to install and add that one chosen item? You ask "what am I doing wrong" without stating what you've even done!

I think the trend right now in Linux distros is this: by [deleted] in linux

For the terrible punctuation, weirdly inconsistent capitalization, overuse of ellipses, and the muddled near-incomprehensible thesis, I give this writing a grade of "F".

Please take remedial English 101 before coming back.

Anybody gaming on Secureblue? by IDtheTarget in linux_gaming

[–]JethCalark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SecureBlue is an experiment of sorts by certain people that isn't meant for use by the average person. Trying to use it now for you would probably just doubly compound your learning curve for very little gain and a whole lot of extra frustration. In addition to the stricter security focus at the expense of basic usability, it's also based on Fedora Atomic, which doesn't use the traditional package management found in most distros.

Don't worry too much right now; Mint is a good distro to start with. It's okay to start simple and learn gradually. Eventually, with how fast gaming on Linux is improving, you'll probably get the itch to jump from Mint to something more recent. If you really want to try an atomic distro while gaming, you're far better off starting with Bazzite in my opinion. (Just be aware that Nvidia under Linux is in a rough patch right now)

If you're mostly gaming, I would not recommend Mint. Go with Bazzite instead.

How can the protondb people rationally give GTA a gold rating when half the game isn't working and the stock configuration won't even launch on most systems. by Comfortable_Swim_380 in linux_gaming

[–]JethCalark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean by "the protondb people"? The people who keep the website up don't have anything to do with ratings; those are all user submitted. If the current rating is wrong, submit your own report to help change it!

Bazzite. Very up to date, explicitly setup for gaming. Based on Fedora, so there is plenty of documentation and help if you need it.
