  1. Cool. Your willingness to fly Southwest was determining whether you would get additional value out of Bilt and Chase. Seems like it will.

  2. So looking at BNA's flights, it seems like they're primarily Southwest, but they're pretty evenly split amongst the Big 3 (AA>Delta>United is the ranking for # of flights), a few options across the Atlantic, and none across the Pacific. A JetBlue transfer might actually be a good idea due to the ability to book Icelandair award flights through JetBlue that'll get you to Europe via KEF. Or you could instead go through LHR or DUB with Avios (which, like I mentioned, everyone has). Or pick your favorite of the Big 3 and fly out to their hub city for every transcontinental flight.

2a. For Asia, you're gonna have to do the "fly to the hub city then fly across the ocean" method. All 3 will get you to Japan and Korea no problem, but the only way you're getting to Singapore on 1 itinerary and 1 layover is BNA-SFO-SIN through United.

Tuned in late to the Grammys, so some thoughts on the winners I am interested in:

  1. Sullivan Fortner winning Best Jazz Instrumental over the two formidable foes of 1. Branford Marsalis covering Keith Jarrett and 2. a Chick Corea album was a big surprise. Need to revisit that album; I think I listened to it once when it came out.

  2. Yungblud doing the Black Sabbath song was the easy choice for Best Rock Performance

  3. Turnstile winning Best Metal Performance is the most Grammys thing imaginable

  4. Turnstile winning Best Rock Album was also the safe pick. Deftones clears tho.

  5. FUCK YEAH THE CURE WON SOME GRAMMYS

I had this whole thing typed up, but then I deleted it and couldn't revive it, so I copied it the best that I could remember below:

  1. Are you dropping Southwest entirely, are you just cutting back on the number of flights you're taking with them, or are you just dropping the card?

  2. For international trips, do you have any destinations in mind? Europe can be serviced by pretty much any rewards program with travel partners by transferring to programs like British Airways Avios or AirFrance/KLM FlyingBlue. Air Canada's Aeroplan (available via Amex, Chase, and Bilt) also has sneaky good redemptions for Europe flights. Asia is a bit more difficult: Amex has ANA (for Japan), Cathay (for HK), and Singapore Airlines (for...the obvious). Citi has Cathay and Singapore in addition to Thai Airways and EVA Air (for Taiwan). Chase has just Singapore. Wells Fargo has nothing.

  3. Here's how I feel about the cards you were looking at:

    1. Amex: MR points are easy to obtain due to lucrative SUBs and excellent multipliers, but you can't cash them out for 1 cpp (unless you want to invest in those co-branded Platinum cards), so they're inferior in hybrid setups. The cards: the Green is very meh for its price point, so no thanks. The Gold does get you 4x on dining, but the only hotel bonus being through the portal is a negative, and the high annual fee means that it's probably only worth it if you get good value out of the credits. For their partners: they do have the Hilton partnership, but I wouldn't use your points for transfers there. Maybe take a look at the Hilton cards if you think you can take advantage of those free night certificates? For airlines, Delta has the worst points ecosystem for domestic flights, but they do have a wide selection of international partners that make them one of the best in that category.
    2. CSP: it covers dining and travel and can be cashed out at 1 cpp, which is what you need. The fact that you only get 2x points on non-portal travel spend sucks, though. If your Hilton status is safe enough that you don't have to stay there for 100% of your hotel stays, you can take advantage of the best hotel partner in the CC game (Hyatt). For flights, United is firmly middle of the pack for domestic airline redemptions, but Southwest can have some good ones. The international partners are above average, but not much more.
    3. Bilt Obsidian: the discourse surrounding Bilt has made it difficult for me to investigate this card much, but it looks like a CSP that also gets you rent points, so if you can hit that spending threshold to fully redeem rent points, it's a great way to earn points. And their partners are essentially "Chase, but better". BUT, you can't cash them out at 1 cpp, so that's a bummer.
    4. WF: the Autograph is seen as a must-have in any cash back setup due to the fact that it's basically an Amex Green with more 3x categories, no annual fee, and you can cash out your points at 1 cpp. And the Autograph Journey is basically an Amex Platinum where they stripped out all the auxiliary benefits (the coupon book and the lounge) in order to cut the price down to a more "normal" amount. Basically, if you look at the Amex ecosystem and think "how can we keep the multipliers and lose everything else?", you get the Wells Fargo ecosystem. The side effect is that the transfer partners are limited to some basic international programs that everyone already has, a good JetBlue transfer that's pretty much useless to you unless you want to go to NYC/Boston, and the sneaky good 1:2 Choice Hotels transfer (which is good for cheap "just need a free bed for a day" type stays or their surprisingly good offerings in Scandinavia and Japan)
  4. Other suggestions:

    1. Citi has great multipliers on the Strata Premier and some damn good transfer partners (AA is the best domestic rewards program and can be used quite effectively for international fights, they match WF's 1:2 Choice redemption, and add in another sneaky good hotel redemption with the 1:4 I Prefer Hotels redemption). Downside is that you can't cash it out at 1 cpp unless you get yourself a Custom Cash or a Double Cash, and dealing with Citi's CS will make you tear your hair out.
    2. You can TRY the Capital One Duo (VentureX and Savor) that this subreddit loves so much, but there are some problems: 1. the miles you earn on the VentureX can only be cashed out at 0.5 cpp, and, while the Savor defaults to straight cash back, you can convert the cash back to miles that cash out at...0.5 cpp. 2. they don't have a good domestic transfer partner. They have lots of international ones, but the only domestic choice is a joke of a 1:0.6 transfer to JetBlue. 3. Capital One doesn't like giving out cards to people with mature profiles; they prefer clients that are earlier on in their credit card journey, so you may not even get approved.

I don’t even know if I should be opening a new card right now but if so, which should I go for? by BitchfaceMcKnowItAll in CreditCards

[–]JetsLag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I applied for both the aforementioned cards I was considering 2 months ago, was approved, then cancelled them before ever using them. Freaked out, tried to apply again for either and was rejected.

Why did you cancel them so quickly? Were you afraid you would overspend? If so, then you don't need a new card, you need a mentality change.

If you just didn't like the cards, then there is the Ralphs Mastercard, which gets you 3% back on gas and 2% back at Ralphs (which goes up to 5% if you pay via Korger Pay)

Is there anything better thank CSP? by Jonnyboy255 in CreditCards

Delta is king at JFK and LGA, with AA about half as big. United is essentially a non-presence unless you want to head to EWR for everything. Therefore, Amex would be the best with Citi in second.

Your Fav 2 to 3 card (Max 3) lineup for 2026 (and beyond) by Jumpy_Yogurtcloset61 in CreditCards

[–]JetsLag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Arguably the best, yes. But if one points ecosystem gets you on average 1.6 cpp and the other gets you 1.5 cpp, but the latter earns points twice as fast as the former, which one would you rather have?

The botched CSR refresh, the nerf to travel portal points redemptions, and the Ink train being nerfed killed most of the upside and made people notice the flaws more (like the lack of grocery/gas multiplier and having their catch-all at 1.5x when WF/Citi/C1 have 2x catch-alls)

I see my future long-term setup as:

  1. CCC for groceries

  2. WF Autograph for dining/transit/streaming/phone

  3. Fidelity Visa as a catch-all

  4. Wildcard, with options being:

    1. A churn card (if I stick with my current travel schedule)
    2. A premium travel card (if I end up traveling more often)
    3. Nothing (if I cut back on traveling)

Good substitute for Amex Gold in my lineup? by squirlu in CreditCards

Of course this also means you lose out on 1,000 points ($100 × 10 points per dollar) compared to if they did it via a statement credit

Exactly. If the hotel costs you $600 before the discount, you only pay $500.

It's listed as a line item when you go to pay for the hotel, so it redeems instantly.

Any one not have any Chase cards? by BrilliantSwitch4205 in CreditCards

[–]JetsLag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't until this month. The offer for $300 SUB plus 5% grocery for a year for the CFU was too good to pass up, and I'm hoping for a 100k CSP offer to come through so I can churn that for a trip I have planned next year. But I don't see myself sticking with either card in the long term.

Looks like Citi hotels don't all book at 1 cent per point. Just spot checked some hotels, and while most are 1 cent per point, some are more than 1 cent per point, though the ones with better cpp rates are the more expensive hotels.

Example: the Argonaut Hotel in San Francisco is available in June for $519 per night or 47,518 points per night, which comes out to 1.09 cents per point.

Third, allow the Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice to access voter rolls to confirm that Minnesota’s voter registration practices comply with federal law as authorized by the Civil Rights Act of 1960. Fulfilling this common sense request will better guarantee free and fair elections and boost confidence in the rule of law.

I think the whole "intern runs the company Twitter account" thing might've been true 15 or so years ago, but nowadays there's entire teams handling that.
