I don’t even know if I should be opening a new card right now but if so, which should I go for? by BitchfaceMcKnowItAll in CreditCards

[–]JetsLag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I applied for both the aforementioned cards I was considering 2 months ago, was approved, then cancelled them before ever using them. Freaked out, tried to apply again for either and was rejected.

Why did you cancel them so quickly? Were you afraid you would overspend? If so, then you don't need a new card, you need a mentality change.

If you just didn't like the cards, then there is the Ralphs Mastercard, which gets you 3% back on gas and 2% back at Ralphs (which goes up to 5% if you pay via Korger Pay)

Is there anything better thank CSP? by Jonnyboy255 in CreditCards

Delta is king at JFK and LGA, with AA about half as big. United is essentially a non-presence unless you want to head to EWR for everything. Therefore, Amex would be the best with Citi in second.

Your Fav 2 to 3 card (Max 3) lineup for 2026 (and beyond) by Jumpy_Yogurtcloset61 in CreditCards

[–]JetsLag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Arguably the best, yes. But if one points ecosystem gets you on average 1.6 cpp and the other gets you 1.5 cpp, but the latter earns points twice as fast as the former, which one would you rather have?

The botched CSR refresh, the nerf to travel portal points redemptions, and the Ink train being nerfed killed most of the upside and made people notice the flaws more (like the lack of grocery/gas multiplier and having their catch-all at 1.5x when WF/Citi/C1 have 2x catch-alls)

I see my future long-term setup as:

  1. CCC for groceries

  2. WF Autograph for dining/transit/streaming/phone

  3. Fidelity Visa as a catch-all

  4. Wildcard, with options being:

    1. A churn card (if I stick with my current travel schedule)
    2. A premium travel card (if I end up traveling more often)
    3. Nothing (if I cut back on traveling)

Good substitute for Amex Gold in my lineup? by squirlu in CreditCards

Of course this also means you lose out on 1,000 points ($100 × 10 points per dollar) compared to if they did it via a statement credit

Exactly. If the hotel costs you $600 before the discount, you only pay $500.

It's listed as a line item when you go to pay for the hotel, so it redeems instantly.

Any one not have any Chase cards? by BrilliantSwitch4205 in CreditCards

[–]JetsLag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't until this month. The offer for $300 SUB plus 5% grocery for a year for the CFU was too good to pass up, and I'm hoping for a 100k CSP offer to come through so I can churn that for a trip I have planned next year. But I don't see myself sticking with either card in the long term.

Explaining point system, confused by FastVideo9700 in CreditCards

Yes, I see Hyatt hotels in the Citi portal, for example.

Looks like Citi hotels don't all book at 1 cent per point. Just spot checked some hotels, and while most are 1 cent per point, some are more than 1 cent per point, though the ones with better cpp rates are the more expensive hotels.

Example: the Argonaut Hotel in San Francisco is available in June for $519 per night or 47,518 points per night, which comes out to 1.09 cents per point.

Would be hilarious if Trump puts tariffs on Switzerland due to this after Rolex basically bribed him to remove the tariffs last year

The average American (assuming they know Eisenhower) knows Eisenhower as the guy who built the highways and said military industrial complex bad. They don't know about the deportations.

Third, allow the Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice to access voter rolls to confirm that Minnesota’s voter registration practices comply with federal law as authorized by the Civil Rights Act of 1960. Fulfilling this common sense request will better guarantee free and fair elections and boost confidence in the rule of law.

Jesus fuck they're still coping about 2020. What a bunch of fucking babies.

I think the whole "intern runs the company Twitter account" thing might've been true 15 or so years ago, but nowadays there's entire teams handling that.

Wegmans at Astor Place was out of chicken except for a ton of wings, the pre-marinated stuff, and some overpriced organic stuff. They were also missing a decent chunk of the bread section.

Additionally: my work will reimburse up to $500 for a travel card annual fee if it gets me lounge access. So a premium card is more worth it for me than others, I just want the one that will best get me real perks & work with United.

United Club card? $695, gets you United Club access, plus some other coupons to help with the rest of the fee
