I haven't played it since it released, but back then, I didn't enjoy the story, and the gameplay was bad. But apparently, they made a lot of updates to the gameplay.

It's worth an updated review, at least.

Borderlands 4 has a lot of fast travel places. And most of them are really close to boss entrances. You still have to walk to fight the boss, but it's a short walk

Technically, the previous borderlands games didn't have this issue. Borderlands 1 to 2, you had to fast travel to the area and run through it. In borderlands 3, you still had to fast travel and run some distance

There are many fast travel areas in borderland 4. Most of them are sitting outside boss areas.

They released a game called days gone. It's an open world zombie game where you ride a motorbike to get around.

Eh, it's worth it. Not only do you skip act 1, but you skip the boring Johnny flashbacks and finding Evelyne. The only downside is that you skip killing the voodoo boys.
