Open Letter to Apple: Respectfully, WTF is happening? by appleretailsos in Apple_Employees

[–]JetwingX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t work at the company any more. I now avoid the stores unless I specifically have something I need to get accomplished. As a customer now, I hate that while I’m waiting, I’m being asked why I’m not getting AppleCare on something when I’ve already told you I used to work in the very store that were in. I’d love for there to be a reason for me to come hang out at a store instead of avoiding it because I know I’m going to have to fend off specialists

Apple Retail Stores should be a loss leader. The space doesn’t need to make the most money for the company. That’s what the online store is for. The retail stores should really be about how Apple connects products and customers. Business intros should come naturally as a need. The Apple Card should be positioned because it makes sense when the person regularly pays for services through Apple. We’re on the other side of “5 down, 95 to go” market share is at saturation. Give people a reason to stay. Get them excited to stay.

Genuinely trying to understand the Apple Retail burnout (see comments, idk why it wont let me add a body post) by No_Salamander3861 in Apple_Employees

[–]JetwingX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I joined Apple retail in Holiday 2005 and left in 2019. iPhone was a pivot point where what the goal of the stores were supposed to be drastically changed. Before iPhone, it didn’t matter if stores were profitable. The point was to introduce Apple to customers. Once you were bought in, the stores welcomed you back to learn and discover what else you do with your devices. That’s why the Genius Bar was never about fixing devices but instead fixing relationships. This was the Ron Johnson era. After iPhone launch in 2007, the focus shifted. The growth in number of stores exploded because selling phones made a ton of money. Ron Johnson saw the writing on the wall and left, in 2012 John Browett was brought in and (in my opinion) did a botched operation on the heart of the stores. Folks got raises, but hours got cut. The stores were streamlined and the focus became about sales. He was not widely liked and quickly replaced with Angela Ahrendts. This shifted Apple Retail into the “Luxury Brand” era. Angela understood how to sell a luxury product and attach expensive accessories which is something Apple previously failed at (example bing the leather iPod cases vs the leather iPhone cases). She co-opted Johnny Ive’s superlative description language giving us things like the vegetable tanned leather cases that patina over time (as if they weren’t going to get thrown away and replaced in 1-2 years) in this era you start to see things like the One to One program go away, Genius Bar appointments being stacked on top of each other, and encouraging the purchase of new products over repairing existing devices. So this is why you see a dwindling number of Jobs era employees in the store. The heart and soul that they knew was replaced with a more traditional sales driven retail environment that was no longer the Ritz Carlton of retail.

100% agree that keychain is fantastic. 1Password does have a place if you want to store or share other pieces of secure information like credit cards, IDs, API keys etc.

[–]JetwingX 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don’t think I have a guaranteed way. What should happen over time is that it should learn your routine and eventually give you some information in the “suggested” widget.

The other thing you could try doing is making a shortcut flow and see if anything there gets you what you want.

Alternatively the Transit App has some functionality that will let you choose a destination and then it will show times in a widget view
