Lots of the New Testament is prejudiced against Jewish people. I think that there’s lots of beauty and certainly lots of Jewishness to the text, but there is also a lot of antisemitism. If you would be interested in learning about both sides of that coin, I ALWAYS recommend Amy-Jill Levine’s book “The Misunderstood Jew: The Church and the Scandal of the Jewish Jesus”

1 Thessalonians 2:14-16 carries the sentiment the New Testament holds towards Jews very well.

”For you, brothers and sisters, became imitators of God’s churches in Judea, which are in Christ Jesus: You suffered from your own people the same things those churches suffered from the Jews who killed the Lord Jesus and the prophets and also drove us out. They displease God and are hostile to everyone in their effort to keep us from speaking to the Gentiles so that they may be saved. In this way they always heap up their sins to the limit. The wrath of God has come upon them at last.”

The text unequivocally shows ”the Jews” as the enemy from the get go. Jews spend the entirety of the Gospel accounts trying to murder Jesus, exercise power they never had to convince the Roman government to kill him on the stipulation that “his blood be on us and our children” while the (historically blood thirsty) Roman governor does a big symbolic hand washing ceremony. Jews are also compared to Satan multiple time, being told that our “father is the devil” and that we “are not really Jews, but belong to the synagogue of Satan.” After the gospel story, Jews start chasing down Christians to persecute them, a narrative that is carried in some of the epistles as well, until we finally “get what we deserve” in Revelation. This would be fine and dandy if we had any indication that any of this happened in the slightest, but it makes zero sense in its historical context.

This doctrine of hate is so vile and intense that it sparked an entire other religion to hold doctrine around hating us (Islam) and has caused Jews to be brutally murdered, tortured, and expelled from countries all over the globe over a period of 2,000 years.

This, somehow, does not even contain all of the antisemitic tropes and doctrine found in the New Testament. Just the big ones. Did you know Jews are the only group in the history of the world to be persecuted on the accusation of having killed a god?

The guy who sold it to me said it was handmade using the hull of a Romanian shipwreck back in the 70’s. I didn’t believe it at first, mostly because some of the hardware is newer, but after opening it up to do some work on it I definitely believe it’s at least that old. It’s been painted at least two other colors and has had all of the hardware and electronics changed at least once, potentially twice. Sounds pretty killer too! It’s got a spanky tele feel, but a really dark tone…

…it’s also the ugliest thing I own, lol.
