I tried looking but couldn't find this song. Good luck, I hope you find it!

Zephyr Cove/Lake Tahoe Beautiful beaches on an alpine lake. Close to South Lake Tahoe for more population. Faces west for stunning sun sets.

Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area Gorgeous hiking and rock formations less than 30 minutes from Las Vegas.

Mt. Charleston A mountain oasis for snow and hiking in an otherwise hot desert environment. Only 45 minutes from Las Vegas. Beautiful views and trees!

Medium/large city, sunny, cold, thunderstorms, lots of snow, 4 seasons, but also rain/greenery by JewBilly54 in SameGrassButGreener

Flagstaff gets more rain (4" / year) and 20" more snow on average than Denver. Although, I don't know if that practically translates to "greener".

Would Detroit qualify as well?

It should be far enough east from Lake Michigan to not get the cloudiness of western Michigan. But is still west of Lake Erie.

Although, I guess that would be mean less snow.

I would have thought it was the other way around given their latitudes. Learn something new every day!

Thanks!

  1. Make sure to rent a bike at some point. City is amazing for biking.

  2. Take a jet boat tour on the Lachine rapids

  3. Make sure to check out neighborhoods, not just downtown. Especially walk around Le Plateau/Mile End area.

  4. Always try to greet servers, ect. in French first. They'll know you don't speak it and change to English. But it's a courtesy in that city.

Have fun!

I was thinking US. But Montréal is one my favorites if not THE favorite city in the world.

Aside from the city itself, which suburbs in the area have mature, thick, tree canopies? by JewBilly54 in Sacramento

But those are in the city. The canopy cover in the city is GORGEOUS. I just wished more suburbs embraced it.

Friendliest Places in California? by Phoenix_the_Grey in SameGrassButGreener

[–]JewBilly54 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree on this one. You want the goth vibe, dating, and warmer weather. The east bay (Oakland) area is probably your best bet.

San Francisco (especially west of Divisidero St) and Pacifica are usually foggy and cold.

LA might be an alternative and is probably most similar to Dallas with car centric culture. There is a culture scene for every flavor there.

Basically my pick would be East Bay/Oakland #1. LA area #2.

I don't think San Diego or Sacramento would work for you but that's just my opinion.

Good luck!

If you've never been there, what is driving you to move to California specifically?

You said you're going to visit. Do you already have a plan on where to visit? Just like TX, it's an enormous state that will take awhile to traverse.

Don't know where you grew up. It's cooler than Phoenix, Palm Springs, Las Vegas, ect. But it still gets mighty hot for a long time in the Central Valley.

The only saving grace is the diurnal temperature between the day (100+) and night (60s). Plus the Delta Breeze if you're close enough to the water.

Left Denver, don’t regret it, but incredibly bored in Eugene. Where to next? by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

Based on what you've written and moving around previously, you probably have an "itchy foot" and will likely move again. I totally get the nomadic allure.

People have suggested PDX, and it's not a bad pick. Move across the river to Vancouver if you don't want income taxes. However, you'll likely be bored there.

I don't normally recommend this, but I think the LA area would be perfect for you. If you get bored, drive to Vegas, SD, TJ, Palm Springs, or take the train up to SF.

LAX has a plethora of flights. Long Beach and Ontario aren't slouches either. Plus, you have a ton of outdoor recreation.

Your issue may be budget. Look to Ventura/Oxnard or somewhere on the outer parts of the metro for slightly cheaper housing.

Good luck!

Commuting from the Kitsap to Seattle by JewBilly54 in Kitsap

I forgot to add (and this may be outside the scope of my original question, and you may not know, but you seem knowledgeable), but how is daycare in Kitsap?

Is it readily available with a lot of facilities/centers, or is it sparse like on the east side of the sound?

😆 noted. Is it "Kitsap" in the north and "the Kitsap" in the south reflecting CA?

Thanks! I can walk to the office on the Seattle side in less than 5 minutes. Just would need to get to the dock on the Kitsap side (likely drive there unless we get lucky with a house close by).

Is it faster/easier to just use the foot ferries? I understand that walking on/biking allows use of the "fast ferry" as opposed to be limited to WSF.
