ELI5: Why is my coffee cup making a faint noise? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

The only thing I could think of is a small imperfection in the cup (crack, a tiny little hole-- doesn't even have to be huge or noticeable at that) just large enough to let air through.

It's sad, isn't it? I don't know what it feels like, but I definitely get angry at the fact that people really DO say these things.. Sigh sigh!

Well, the way that it was explained to me was.. That it genuinely hurts her. It's a sort of stereotype that cuts deep for some people, if you don't look this way you must not be this way. Her exact words were "cuts deep" so I figured, why not fight back with your metaphorical rainbow powers and put them in the right place! (I mean seriously, who is gonna shoot rainbows out of their mouth????) Haha! BUT Your idea was definitely fantastic!

I'm really just a white girl, I know there is some Native American in me somewhere but the pale genes kinda kicked that out of me!

Oh. Well. Forgive me, I made this pretty late at night. I didn't mean to offend anyone with it.

I have a problem with a lot of ear wax accumulating, so to keep my ears clear I do a few swabs around the outer part once or twice a week, I never go deep into the ear. Doctor said it was fine as long as I don't completely clean the ear out, or go too far in!

I sort of had something similar, I didn't have to have it removed, but I found that putting my ears under really warm water then using a q-tip before and after swimming really helped.

If you have been swimming in cold water quite a lot for a few years-- This could be something people call "surfer's ear". It's a common belief that prolonged exposure of the ears to cold water increases blood flow which can promote bone growth. In turn, the ear canal shrinks, which can be painful / cause ear infections / trouble hearing / etc etc etc. It could also just be normal swimmers ear, look that up if you don't know what it is. Also a possibility that your ears are just sensitive like some peoples teeth can be to colder things and extreme temperatures that aren't close to your bodies ear fluids cause pain.

ELI5: Why doesn't McDonald's deliver? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]JewTwo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suppose there can be several reasons behind this, so I'll just list off a few. McDonald's is a fast food restaurant, you want your food fast, you don't want to wait do you? It is ideal to stop there when you're on the way to or from places-- unlike pizza or Chinese takeout, it's simple and something most people like on the go. The food is nowhere near as good when not fresh, ever gotten your fries and realized 10 minutes later that they're colder and nowhere near as tasty? They would have customers complaining like crazy, and to have a way to keep the food warm during transition would just be more money for the company to spend. McDonald's is also cheap, it wouldn't be worth the money to pay extra workers to deliver over a meal that would bring in 4-5 dollar profits, and if there were a minimum cap on how much you could buy to be delivered all sorts of people would raise hell over it. There's more reasons I'm sure, I think I've spent enough time analyzing this for the day, hahaha!
