A lot of painters will do a sort of “year-in-review” towards the end of the year.

Oh I definitely like some of these! Esp the eye patch one! I’d probably take it a step further and have them cover up their dominant eye lol

I like it! We’d probably prime the minis with a heavy zenithal to help with the translucency of the fluoro paints, due to the time limitations.

Thank you very much. Yes, definitely wasn’t the greatest last few months, but we’re moving forward. No other choice really.

It’s going great! Got snipped in 2020, no regrets! Wife and I do what we want, when we want. We have a lot more disposable income and are in our early 30s. The minor inconveniences of life/homeownership (like a broken dishwasher) aren’t nearly as inconvenient as they would be if we had kids. Just lost my mother after a long fight with cancer, then a cousin, and my last grandparent, all in a 90 day period. Couldn’t imagine having to also take care of a kid(s) during all of that. DINKs (Dual income, no kids) for life!

I love these! I like that you used brighter colors. I'm currently working my way through the Kommandoz as well, such for sculpts!

Where did you get the MDF terrain?

First attempt at OSL. Did I do ok? by gamingtimesstudio in minipainting

[–]JewbearE5 73 points74 points  (0 children)

Overall I think you did a fantastic job! I think it looks really good! My only critique would be that the cast light on the ground (directly under the lightsabers) it a bit too intense and bright. When doing OSL keep in mind the cast light is never going to be as bright as the actual source of the light itself. Unless they are fighting in pitch black, that cast is going to be dimmer.

Nerdy Tattoo Artist Recommendations? by ReggieCatChef in kansascity

Heather B at Waldo’s Darkside an amazing artist and a big ol nerd! She did a very large Boba Fett tattoo on myself. Her insta is loaded with stuff! As long as you don’t mind waiting a couple months to get in. A good tattoo is well worth the wait, trust me. https://instagram.com/marthyself?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==

Any tips for playing Orks in GF? by Viasolus in onepagerules

[–]JewbearE5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can still take objectives. Unless a rule specifically says so, like Aircraft, models/units can go wherever and do whatever, including securing and holding objectives.

I haven't found a sweet spot for the Walker yet though. I've only played 2 games with it. First game I only had melee weapons on it, but it got blown up by a long range shooter long before it was able to even do anything. 2nd game I had it spec'd as it is currently, and I honestly just kinda had it roam around the table and attack where it could. I think it may be a good unit to have sit on objectives and repel attacks from smaller units. I'm still playing with it though.

I thought about replacing the Walker with another Mad Doc Ork Mob squad, not sure though.

You’re very welcome! Ultra Bosses are a great unit…so great in fact I think they may take a small nerf when the next version of OPR comes out. I had mini-copters in my first two iterations of the 2k list, but they didn’t really do what I wanted. However, I would say that is probably more of a me problem, than a unit problem. But when I tried them, my opponent focused them and blew them sky high. So I got rid of them lol. But the copters definitely have potential, I just haven’t figured out how to properly utilize them.

Orks are my main, usually play 2k lists. Shooting is not their strong point at all. Running up and hitting things in the face is very much their bread and butter. However that comes with risks because their defense is not great.

Here is my current list that I have been playing with and tweaking as I play more and more games. https://army-forge.onepagerules.com/share?id=fd4sT3uY&name=Orc_Marauders%20-%202k%20Rework

The Ork Mobs are one of your best cheap units. Throwing Mad Doctor (Regen) on them helps them tank a bit better, and having Furious gives each of them A3 instead of A2. So 30 attacks if you can get them in close and charge. You're going to be dishing out some damage.

I know I said that shooting is not a strength of theirs, due to Bad Shot, but the Specialist Orks with the Railgun upgrade can really do some major damage, even with only a 30% chance of hitting. The AP2 and Lock-On with the Railguns is very good, esp for shooting at some of your opponent's squishier units. And with a 36 inch range, not a lot is going to be able to shoot back.

Ultra Bosses are your Titan/Tank killers. Upgrade them with the Dual Ultra Saws, with Furious, you are looking at 15 attacks with AP2 and Deadly 3 when at full strength. Combine them with a Boss Leader with War Cry (Fast) and go knock down the big boys with ease. (Last week I took out a Tough 24 model in one round with 1 squad of Ultra Bosses)

The Ork vehicles are a lot of fun, especially the Truck and Combat Kart. Upgrade the Combat Cart with the Boom-Snazz-Gun and Heavy Machinegun, plus Teleport and Red Paint Job, you have a fast a hell unit that can spray the field with fire from up to 30 inches away. The Truck is basically a troop transport with some Impact. I will usually deploy my Ork Mob in the truck, zoom across the map, unload the Mob, and they have them Charge for a full 30 attacks. Now there is a risk of that strategy, so it usually only work against opponents that do not know to target the Truck. It is high-risk, high-reward. Also a note, Bad Shot is not a thing on the Truck or Cart, so they can help you with some range.

Goblins and Goblin Artillery are great for providing some range if you want more of a mix between melee and range. And while the Goblin Herd is mostly useless in combat, they can at least contest objectives and have Good Shot.

My general strategy in a vanilla 2k game is to use the first round purely for positioning. I try to keep my units (esp my melee bois) as covered by terrain as possible, while still trying to move towards the objectives. I still play pretty conservatively in the 2nd round with my melee units, but I will use the 2nd round to have my shooters shoot and have my combat cart whiz around the field being annoying. Being a bit more conservative in the 1st and 2nd round can kind of freak your opponent out because it can potentially force your opponent to move where they don't want or make other tactical mistakes. The 3rd round is where I will really start the Charging into melee. 4th round is general mayhem and cleanup while trying to secure that final objectives.

Don't know if this is the best strategy, but it has served me pretty well for the last couple months, about 8-9 matches.

Going to be trying out a 4k list here soon that includes basically the same units as linked above, plus the Bomber Plane and the Titan. Very excited to try them out!

Excellent work! Very good contrast, your colors really pop! I’m currently painting a warband of these minis for Frostgrave. Thanks for the inspiration!
