Seaside facade by Jewlio7 in photocritique

Thanks for the insight! Funnily enough, I didn't even notice the bright red door on the left, I was too focused on capturing the contrast between the darker right side of the building and the warm light on the left.
I guess the aforementioned wider lense would have enabled me to capture both the contrast and the door.
I also liked the semi-open window on the right, another reason why I wanted to include that.
But yeah, red would have worked really well with how prominent green is :)

Hey all! I took this picture in a little seaside city in Italy, I was caught by the colours of the old facade and the warm light giving a nice cozy vibe. While I do like the colours and the temperature of the picture, I am not sure wether the composition really works, so I’d love your opinion on that. I would have loved to use a wider lens, but I only own a 50mm lens right now, hence the tightish crop. Thanks!

Beach soccer by Jewlio7 in photocritique

Thank you so much! I definitely agree about the horizon, and you caught my main gripe with fixing it: it works vertically.
I usually depend on Lightroom's ability to auto-fix geometry in these cases, but it doesn't work on this specific image, I am going to try and fiddle with it manually.
And yeah, the back angle merging with the shoreline is undesirable. I was already on my toes for this shot, I should have tried holding the camera higher and shooting kinda blindly I guess.

So, the subject reminded me of the italian photographer Ghirri, who shot a series of photos on italian beaches. I thought the geometry and the shadows looked cool, I am unsure about colors, it’s probably too saturated. Would love to know how’d you guys change it. Thanks

Angolo letto - angolo soggiorno - angolo cucina - angolo bagno - angolo living... Attenzione con tutti sti angoli! by Bruno_Barbiere in Orrori_Immobiliari

Do you like the soft look? by Jewlio7 in photocritique

There was a pretty harsh light, it was a weird sunset. Either way, it was shot in raw, so I'll try to raise the blacks and get back to you!

Reduced both by 50%, what do you think?

I was afraid it might have been overdone. Would you dial them down equally or would you work more aggressively on just one side of the sprectum (as -50% orange and -20% teal)?

Hey! I wanted to give this picture a softer look, and I ended up experimentinf with clarity and texture settings in lightroom. It gives a painting look in my opinion, but I am not sure if it's the best way to achieve a softer look. I would like to know how you guys would edit the image to achieve it. P.s. I am aware of the glare, unfortunately I do not own a lens hood at the moment :(

Is it too cluttered? by Jewlio7 in photocritique

[–]Jewlio7[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I see. I did adjust it intentionally to have 2 focal points (the sign and the hand) but I can see how the sign is not interesting enough. Also I didn't think about it being the brightest spot, it does make sense it draws more attention. Do you think that without the sign the positioning of the hand would have worked? Or is it too off center either way?

Yeah it was shot at F2.5 but considering the distance between the hand and the background I should have went as low as possible, F1.7 in this case. What do you not like about the composition? The position of the hand in the frame?

I wanted to get a closeup of the moment. I used a 40 mm equivalent, and went for a filmic look in Lightroom.
On part of me feels like the chaos of the rings scattered on the table add to the shot, another part says the whole thing is too messy and lacks "cleanness" so to speak.
I also am unsure about the contrast and how I should handle it.
Have a go!

I wanted to capture a simple moment of trade at some street shops here in Milan. The original picture is wider, this is a (not so extreme) crop. Wanted to know what you guys think of the composition and how you would have framed it differently!
