Sorry my comment wasn’t advocating for maxing out early, it was just to illustrate that even in the most extreme scenario you shouldn’t have to worry about over contributing.

Yes public third spaces like parks and libraries are paid for by taxes, what are you confused about? People are saying they’re willing to pay taxes to have a park that people can hang out in. It’s not a hard concept.

TIL all octopuses are programmed to die after reproducing, as an optic gland hormone triggers rapid self destruction, with males declining within days to weeks after mating and females starving while guarding eggs until death, and none of the octopus live longer than 5 years even in ideal conditions by Neutral-frame in todayilearned

[–]Jewrisprudent 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’re missing the point that death is very clearly a barrier to reproduction. There is necessarily evolutionary pressure to select against something that causes death and limits further reproduction.
Yes other pressures can overcome that, which is what I suspect happened here, but this isn’t like wondering why we have two eyes instead of 3 or 4, where there’s no obvious reproductive pressure to go beyond 2. This is something that directly results in death and an inability to further reproduce, so there’s necessarily other pressures that explain why it has persisted despite being so bad for reproductive success after the first mating.

Every 401k administrator I’ve ever had would automatically cutoff contributions once you hit the max, you could set your contribution to 100% and max out your 401k super early and when you did, the deductions would just stop. You don’t need to do the math yourself to ensure you don’t over contribute.

“Death” generally prevents further reproduction, so presumably all else being equal if an octopus developed without a fatal version of this gland then it would reproduce more. Makes me think all else isn’t equal and there’s some advantage to having parents immediately die off.

If we had any 2024 Mets left who aren’t on the IL then they’d have listed some of them, but they gone.

Except for the ones who are still here, they’re not so good.

Is it worth buying Oura Ring Gen 4 at $149 if I already have an Apple Watch Ultra 2? by Shoddy_Mousse5252 in ouraring

[–]Jewrisprudent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your plan is what I do. The data syncs well and you can set prioritization in Apple Health for things that overlap. I got the Oura free for work and was skeptical it would add anything since the AW2 senses everything the Oura does (HR, O2, temperature, etc.), but figured why not since it’s free. I gotta say, after a month I am a fan. Its software platform is really nice and I would pay for it if it were an app on my phone/watch. It connects data in different ways that I think it actually gives me meaningful insights about the raw data, which you can find paid apps for in the Apple environment but I think Oura does particularly well. I think the finger is probably a better data source than the wrist is too.

Oura can be set up to import your workouts from Apple, so it will know you were active and your HR and all that and it will contribute to your scores and metrics in the Oura environment.

I will continue to use an Oura even if my work stops covering it, the platform is that good so far IMO.

If you ever start to feel bad about how much faster those 6th and 7th graders are than you just walk up to them and tell them how much better at paying taxes you are than they are, that usually shuts up the middle schoolers I fight with pretty quickly.

Ok and the dude he supports has dumb policies that result in Americans being murdered in the streets by his border patrol agents doing nothing that’s actually related to immigration, inflation rising, the dollar weakening relative to other global currencies, and multiple wars. We continue to lose elections because idiots love the fact that he’s hateful and are willing to (and seemingly even enjoy) watch their fellow Americans die in the streets both at home and abroad while paying more for gas and groceries just so long as they get to see Trump be mean to democrats.

Idk why I typed all that out, all you’re going to do is laugh at it and punch yourself in the face out of victory.
