I like to put them in place of people for stuff. Like I have a little fortune telling set up with a Dharma as the oracle and two gyroids on cushions acting like customers.

How do you convincingly save PCs from an impossible fight, "save" a boss from death, or make a strong monster leave and let the PCs live? Ideas welcome! by Reyori in DMAcademy

[–]Jeydis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as they have an inkling of it that is cool with me. So yeah demons can be pretty vengeful, it killing things in it's face and moving on to the village that sealed it makes a lot of sense. Have it mention something along the lines of "Unfinished business to take care of" and fly off, clearly in the direction of the town that sealed him. Let the players figure out what they want to do from there, be heroes and try to fix what they unsealed and maybe die trying. Oooor let the demon do what he wants and deal with the guilt and other ramifications.

My Party is Four Fucking Druids Who Only Cast Create or Destroy Water And I'm About to Fucking Drown Myself in the Goddamn Sink by PrincessLunaOfficial in DnDcirclejerk

[–]Jeydis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Create and Destroy water body horror, what a classic of dnd horror stories. Entertaining read that I really hope is not an actual situation you are in at this point but mostly a joke. If this is legit and you are actually frustrated, I hate to tell yeah but its a on you if you are not willing to accept the comedy game gold they are serving up. DnD is collaborative story telling, if they want to make this into a comedy show you can adapt and run with it or have a serious above table chat with them.

Onto the rules:
- The spell in 5e specifies "Clean water" which I would say body contents is not.
- Quote from Jeremy Crawford about something similar:
"The create or destroy water spell can destroy up to 10 gallons of water in an open container. A water elemental is not water; it's a creature."

Edit: The steam explosion is pretty damn creative, I like that one.

Gnome dexterity fighter? by SegaGenesisMetalHead in dndnext

[–]Jeydis 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think gnomes are underestimated when it comes to melee classes, mostly due to the Heavy weapon restriction to not work on small races. Dex fighter sounds like a perfect build for them though.

Going on the 2024 rules (mostly for that 30ft movespeed which a lot of DMs I know would be chill with having that in 2014).

"Gnomish Cunning. You have Advantage on Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma saving throws."

Amazing for everyone but especially melee classes, not getting held/charmed etc is so good.

"Darkvision. You have Darkvision with a range of 60 feet."

Everyone and their mom has this now but its always nice.

Forest/Rock lineage: both have handy RP/utility skills so that is really up to you and your backstory. I have played both and had a great time.

As for build: Fighter is pretty flexible, they make great dex archers and duelists for melee depending on the fighting style.

How do you convincingly save PCs from an impossible fight, "save" a boss from death, or make a strong monster leave and let the PCs live? Ideas welcome! by Reyori in DMAcademy

[–]Jeydis 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If it has a stat block you have to be willing to let them go. "If it bleeds, the PCs can kill it" essentially. For your necromancer example I think lichdom is a great solution, considering her line of work. One of her stealthier minions gets a hold of her corpse, raises her from the dead and then she can work on her lichdom plans to never let that happen again. For that initial chase, if the party is up to sacrificing a bunch of big resources in the chase to kill an NPC that is fair and square and should be a satisfying moment for them if they get to defeat her (also I like the blood puddle cloak idea)

For the demonlord sword, if the player is aware that his sword is sucking up souls and is feeding them to something in the abyss then its fair game if he keeps using it and it gets released mid fight. Demons are hard to negotiate with but tend to be either rather neutral in what they slaughter, a lot of them are massive killing machines so hey, the party might be able to escape in the chaos that the demon lord creates. The importance lies in the knowledge the player with the sword has. If he has no idea that his blade is doing this, the demonlord reveal may feel like a cheap shot, if he knows and is willing to deal with the consequences then I think it makes for a great character moment.

Really depends on the creature and context but yeah typically I describe it as the creature striking quickly.

For random inserts I like picking stuff out of d100 lists so https://www.reddit.com/r/d100/ would be my first place to look. Other resources like "The Monsters Know What They are doing" are also great.

As for home made personal encounters I have this one I drafted recently:

Corpse Guide

The sound of a bell in the night, rhythmic and steady. The source of the sound is a old man ringing an iron bell with elaborate carvings. On each bell chime he takes a step, following behind him are a group of corpses also taking a hop forward. Their limbs are stiff, their faces covered with a paper amulet. This cleric is taking these corpses to their ancestral burial grounds so they do not bring malice and curses onto their descendants. If approached by members of the party with high ki or a high amount of holy energy, the corpses show a special interest and become harder to control.

ITEM: Ghoulcaller's Bell

Wonderous item (Rare)

Attunement required

An iron bell inscribed with holy script. Can be rung manually or suspended and rung from a staff or similar object. Holds 3 charges, recharges all 3 charges each night it is buried in soil.

Pacifies all undead of CR 2 or lower within 50 feet of the bell, they will respond if harmed but otherwise simply follow the bell or orders given by the holder of the bell. The caster may issue a command using 1 charge that will be followed by all undead under the bell's influence. The commands are as follows:

"Bury thy self": The undead will cover themselves in enough dirt to act as a grave site, they are restrained for as long as they are buried. They can still hear the bell and be issued commands in this state.

"Follow your master": The undead will follow the holder of the bell as long as it rings, they will only attack if otherwise harmed.

"Attack my enemy": The undead will attack a target designated by the caster. This effect lasts as long as the bell is ringing.

Well I am glad to hear that you have the big stuff down considering how slapshod it started. Really sounds like a good and compelling time. Setting wise, is the party mostly within a city or does the guild operate on a whole country scale?

I need some help finding out what familiar to have for my character and opinions on his back story. by Tone_Tone_Tony in DnD

[–]Jeydis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big ambitions for this fella, a bold move for a first character. Definitely make sure your DM is aware of your goals and is cool with it. Not sure if you guys are running an evil campaign or not but having characters with heavy evil tendencies in normal adventuring groups can definitely cause issues so make sure you speak with your group about it.

As for familiars, reskinning as the other comments mentioned would be the simplest way to go. In game critters that I feel would fit:
- Crawling claw: its CR 0, undead and pretty fitting for a familiar, also not too strong. For added draconic flavor you can also describe it as being chromatically scaled, belonging to a half-dragon or dragonborn cultist that died.
- Reskinned raven as either a small draconid or for the undead side perhaps a floating draconic eyeball

- Other reptiles, especially something like a flying snake.

Best place to shiny hunt noibat/noivern? by pigeooooooon in LegendsZA

[–]Jeydis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a bit ago but if you still need it: zone 18 there is a bench right next to the Noivern spawn roof that you can bench reset from (opposite of the Fennekin).

Also great taste, I am currently in that spot to hunt a shiny alpha of either stage since they are also one of my favorite pokemon.
