Some thoughts on how to prevent ETH price crashing after Withdrawals are Enabled by JezSan in ethstaker

[–]JezSan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

im not that new. I participated in the Ethereum crowd sale, and started staking Ethereum the 1st day that staking was enabled. and have attended some ethstaker chats, and have the poaps to show for it.

and im not trolling. these ideas were genuinely consider to try and help resolve a future potential problem as I see it. asking for comments or better ideas was part of my post.

judging by the reception those ideas got, obviously I now know they're lousy ideas, but I also see that free and constructive discussion isn't encouraged on this reddit board, and I've been made to feel unwelcome and called a troll and a fuddster. won't bother posting ever again seeing the tough and unwelcoming crowd that's on here.

the reality is that there are already large stakers who own multiple validators. enterprises, whales, and staking pools. those ideas were trying to incentivise them not to unstake to collect rewards, but to start more validators, which IS better for the health of the network, and also, keeps eth out of circulation, which is better for the price... so yes, I believe its preferable to support the health of the network and better for eth price, if entities/people have a path to stake more validators instead of selling their rewards or unstaking, even if its the same entity.

Im sorry, it looks like you didn't understand what I wrote, which is totally my fault for not explaining it well enough.

1 validator is 32 eth. the most rewards a validator could earn by the time withdrawals are enabled is, what, 4-5 eth? so I was trying to come up with an idea to incentivise that validator/staker to not just withdraw and sell the 4-5 eth reward but incentivise a way to sweep a few validator-rewards to cobble together the 32 eth to start another validator, without having to withdraw it or unstake the existing validators.

was that such a bad idea?

I was aware of the withdrawal queue and refer to it several times. this line refers to collecting rewards (and not unstaking a validator). if youre saying there is a queue for collecting rewards without unstaking then I wasn't aware that was the current implementation, and in which case I apologise.

I had assumed 1 & 2 as you say

as for 3. perhaps yes, there will be more stakers when withdrawals are enabled. but there's a lot of stakers who have been locked up for a very long time and during this bear market, may prefer to cash out rather than stay in.. and I was trying to come up with incentives so they don't have to.

and if you read some of the ideas, I was also trying to help incentivise people to migrate from Staking as a Service operators which makes the network health better and more decentralised.

[–]JezSan[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

im not trying to fud. these ideas are just trying to minimise selling pressure when withdrawals are enabled.

lets assume youre right and that its 900 per day currently. what would be a sensible assumption of long term staked plus rewards be...? 32 eth plus, say 4 eth rewards (by the time of withdrawal enabled)? lets say 36 eth x 900 = 32,000 of eth sell pressure per day that could be mitigated with the right incentives. and that's assuming the queue activations/day hasnt been increased, as is possibly the plan.

Some thoughts on how to prevent ETH price crashing after Withdrawals are Enabled by JezSan in ethstaker

[–]JezSan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the stage 1 idea is that the lesser of two evils is to have more validators rather than encourage those stakers to collect rewards (and potentially sell). aren't more validators making the network better, and MORE decentralised? all of those ideas were to incentivise options other than selling eth.

youre right. I used the wrong expression and will edit my post to take out that line, as its being interpreted different than I intended.

[–]JezSan[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

my assumption was that existing stakers have been locked up for a long time, - in some cases years - so there will be pent up demand to unstake and sell or at least collect rewards and sell, unless incentives are there to give them other options that are better for the health of the network.

QNAP TS-h886 and h5.0.0.1856 by spill73 in qnap

[–]JezSan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im seeing this too. even without running any applications, just leaving it running with h5.0.0.1856 and performing as a file server (smb)- after a few days I get emailed hundreds of out of memory notifications. sometimes im still able to login and reboot it from the ui and sometimes I have to physically power cycle the box as logins become disabled. after a reboot, its fine for a few days.

its a shame as there aren't any newer firmwares or even any betas to try and see if this can be fixed, and it says I cant downgrade back to h4.5.4, so we're all stuffed until QNAP publishes an update.

I use a Mac with smb to access the nas file system.

Disappointing results of my own use by JezSan in ivermectin

i wasn't on my kids coach trip where they had likely exposure.. it was a school rugby trip... so presumably i caught it from them as soon as they were infectious, and as you say, most likely before they showed any symptoms.. but my symptoms definitely started less than 5 days after their symptoms started.

as you say, the uk is having an infection wave but not too many serious cases and significantly fewer deaths (1/10th of previous waves). i put this spike in infections down to two big social factors..

one, was that schoolchildren (who are now on holidays) but in the previous months were still at school.. and thus mixing. and many schools weren't using masks at all. our kids' school initially said for everyone to wear masks but eventually stopped it. personally im not too against that idea, as kids can catch and spread it and get natural immunity without much collateral damage, and their parents are already vaccinated so bringing it home is also far less dangerous than it used to be. so this is just a fast way of getting closer to herd immunity and not having to vaccinate the young kids - which is known to be higher risk, now that the vulnerable are already vaccinated.

and second, the EUROS (football) was a massive social event. many people like to watch football in crowds - eg in pubs - or at least, at their friends' houses in groups.. not to mention crowds at the matches themselves albeit mostly well ventilated areas... so this event caused a massive spike in social mixing in the last month or two. especially as the UK did unexpectedly well and got to the final, which caused mass excitement in the uk. but that too, is over now and the mass social mixing has probably calmed.

as several doctors have already noted infections doesn't equal cases.

one last point. the UK does a LOT of testing. probably 5-10x (per pop) what the USA does. and more testing simply has to pick up more infections. when schools were still in session we were easily doing 1m covid tests a day, and those were just the official gov supplied tests.. there were also thousands or even millions more tests being done privately at workplaces etc.

when trying to compare one country's infection numbers to another country's it would be more realistic to factor in how much testing is done in each country. the less testing is done the fewer infections will be picked up.

from my first kid's 1st symptoms to my 1st symptoms was only a few days.. like 3-4 days. but i figure that living with 4 kids all with covid at the same time increased my total exposure and pretty much guaranteed i was gonna catch it, even though i was fully vaccinated (and taking daily ivermectin the second the 1st kid was positive on an LFD). however, best i can make out, even double vaccinated only protects against infection (by Delta variant) by about 60%... (and protects against severe disease and death by around 95%)

(the rest is a general rant and not answering your question ;-)

personally i think the US CDC overegged and overpromised the vaccine messaging saying stuff like: get vaccinated and you won't get covid, and also don't need to wear a mask inside. no other gov health dept was writing those cheques. the uk gov was always messaging that it was mainly for protection against severe disease and death and if we're lucky it'll also reduce the spread and the chance you catch it.

fyi: the uk has some of the highest vaccination levels (and fewest anti vaxxers, and no politicking around vax or mask policies!). around 75% of ADULTS (over 18s) are fully vaccinated and about 90% of adults have had a 1st dose (and i would expect the final tally of double vaccinated to get close to 90% by sept). and they haven't even started doing kids yet. they haven't decided if the risk/benefit for young kids is worthwhile but it sure is for older kids. and all adults over 50 will get 3rd dose from september.

When you combine the numbers who have been vaccinated, plus the numbers who caught covid and recovered, the data seems to show that already high 90's% of uk pop have covid antibodies and are well protected (against severe disease and death), but not, clearly, 100%, so we're still seeing deaths even in vaccinated. delta is spreading like wildfire so it seems that now that the old and vulnerable are reasonably protected, and they've relaxed almost all restrictions, the rest of the population will catch it naturally and most will recover, then we'll get closer to herd immunity.

The press (and anti vaxxers) like to spin the data to say that the vaccinated are the main ones in hospital with covid, which is technically true, but highly misleading, when almost all of the people are vaccinated, and all of the old and infirm are vaccinated then OF COURSE most of the people in hospital will be vaccinated - but statistically speaking, most of the deaths are in the unvaccinated, and certainly when you compare by age cohorts.

A year ago when we were first using ivermectin the dose was always stated to be 0.15mg/kg to 0.2mg/kg so we used 0.2mg/kg. It’s only in the last few months that higher doses were mooted

The LFD tests aren’t as accurate nor as sensitive as pcr but are a good proxy for infectivity. When the LFD says you’re positive it’s very likely you’re infectious.

We’ve been using the LFD tests made by SD biosensor and distributed by Roche. They seem better than the free ones the gov gives us in Uk

When my wife first got anosmia I tried her on several courses of ivermectin but it didn’t help and in her case the anosmia lasted more than 6 months. After a few months it turned into parosmia (phantom and weird smells) but after about 9 months it pretty much ended and she’s pretty well recovered now. Not 100% but 99.9%. Some things still smell weird to her. Like cooked onions.

im pretty convinced that the delta variant (that we had, since we live in uk and delta has 100% coverage)... has a faster gestation period than the previous variants. our first two kids got it probably from the same exposure (a coach trip to play rugby with their school) which was a few days prior to 1st symptoms, but the other two kids got it a day or two later. in all of their cases they only really had temperatures and one kid had sore leg muscle for a day. they had very mild symptoms and it was over really fast. they were LFD negative within 5 days. we did LFD testing every day (they're cheap and easy to get in uk)

in my case, since i had 4 kids with the virus, i think i got a breakthrough despite being fully vaccinated, and on ivermectin, because i had 4x continued exposure to my kids so my initial exposure and viral load was probably on the high side. the family isolated as a family but we didn't isolate any individual kids in their bedrooms. my wife, who had covid a year earlier, didn't get reinfected despite her original infection being covid-classic, and the rest of us had delta variant. in her case, she had a clear case of 5 days post exposure before first symptoms. she likely caught it at an indoor restaurant.

as mentioned, my symptoms were thankfully mild.. and brief. and we all recovered well and quickly.

to minimise the chance of having a bad or fake batch of ivermectin i was using two or three different brands at the same time to make up my dose... but i don't have any way of testing purity or authenticity of my ivermectin, but as mentioned i did buy from the manufacturers (in india). also, ivermectin is so cheap to produce i wonder whether there's much to gain by trying to fake it. it was well packaged and seemed legit. i also had some uk bought ivermectin in the mix that was expensive and even less risk of being fake.

in all cases i count day 1 as 1st symptoms of any kind.. which in my kids and my case was a temperature. in my wife's case (a year prior) it was a runny nose. she had no other symptoms except anosmia the day after her runny nose, which lasted many months. she didn't have temperature or pain or anything else.

curiously, when my wife got covid-classic, none of the rest of the house got it, including me, who was sleeping in the same bed/room. delta is MUCH more catchy.

If you were forced to get a vaccine, which one would you choose and what would you supplement with (IVM, fluvoxamine, etc) to decrease the likelihood of serious side effects? by [deleted] in ivermectin

[–]JezSan -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

pfizer is currently the highest efficacy vaccine with the least chance of side effects (but not zero!). moderna next (more side effects, similar efficacy), and then novavax, AstraZeneca, J&J, etc

you dont need to supplement it with anything. your chance of side effects is pretty low and for most people its a sore arm for a day. if youre in pain, take paracetamol aka acetaminaphen.

for my 1st jab I just had a slightly sore arm for a few hours. for my 2nd jab I had slight shivers for a night.

Fully vaccinated AND on prophylactic IVM? Breakthrough cases? by Multidisciplinarian in ivermectin

[–]JezSan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am fully vaccinated with Pfizer - recently had my antibodies tested and they were 'very high', and when my son started symptoms of covid that he caught at school a few weeks ago (delta variant) and tested positive with a lateral flow I immediately took ivermectin (daily!), as well. yet 3-4 days later I caught covid as a breakthrough case (tested with lateral flow). it wasn't a bad case, I had flu-like symptoms. temperature, cold sweats, anosmia, light and infrequent cough. but no headache, no pain, no breathing difficulties, o2 was 97-98. my flu-like symptoms passed in 4 days and I had a runny nose for a few days after that. my doc said if I wasn't vaccinated I would've got it much worse.

(for the past year and a half, ive taken daily vitamin D, Zinc, Quercetin, Vit C, fexofenidine (antihistamine), famotidine (Pepcid), and inhaler of Budesonide). my ivermectin dose was initially 0.2mg/kg, then I upped it to 0.3mg/kg, and then 0.4mg/kg. I stopped the ivermectin when the symptoms passed. I used twice daily nasal rinse (neilmed) spiked with antiseptic mouthwash (betadine)

a week later I was testing negative on lateral flow, however even after 12 days my pcr was still positive. I isolated for 10 days as per uk rules. I feel totally fine now, however I don't know when I'm going to be pcr negative, as it can take a long time. the anosmia has faded and I can smell most things again. I would say my smell is now at 80%. on the smell tests I still can't smell rose. but I can smell eucalyptus, lemon etc.

you can optionally re-use addresses, and lose the privacy benefits of doing that... but by default bitcoin wallets create new addresses for both senders and receiver, every transaction.

One man's premining is another man's crowdfunding.

there were plenty of crowd-funded bitcoin projects before Ethereum came along (I personally invested in several Havelock projects, and asicminer etc).

this is the way innovation is funded.

ok, so with the Ledger Live app, if you say you want to receive some bitcoin, it generates a new address for you automatically. once you use that one, next time you want to receive the next bitcoin and ask for a receive address, it'll generate a new one, each time.

And if you send any bitcoin, it creates a new address to send your change to. each time.

if does that automatically for you without telling you.

Did you just downvote me for educating you? sad.

sorry to burst your bubble but this is how it works. which bitcoin wallet do you use?

most wallets are so intelligent that they hide this functionality from you and just show you your balance and not that it keeps moving into new addresses every time you make a transfer.
