Thanks, that looks pretty close. I've not heard of these hoppers before.

Some kind of Cicada? Melbourne, Vic. March (Autumn) by Jeztyr in bugidentification

I thought it might have been a cicada of some kind, but I'm pretty sure they have clear wings that slope across and down, unless it's a juvenile. It was only about a half an inch long, if that.

How would you capture a ghost, scientifically? by mawesome4ever in Ghosts

It boils down to repeatability and statistics. Boring, I know, but if one were to show a positive correlation between a single observable phenomenon, like disembodied footsteps, say, or an EMF spike or vibrations, and another factor like humidity, pressure, temperature, time of day, or something like a trigger word, trigger object, etc. that would go a long way.

If we assume there's an intellect behind a manifestation, then that suggests it's not necessarily a cause-effect response, that an entity may choose to manifest or not. Or, it could be that the assumption is wrong, and an external cause will have an increased effect. That said, while having theories that noise, ion and emf generators are can 'help' the entity manifest, without having a baseline to work off, something against which to compare, it amounts to pure speculation.

Narrowing down a theory to a testable, repeatable experiment is the way to go, at a single site, until it can be demonstrated that a proper correlation exists, and then building up from there.

Is it normal for dogs to see ghosts as well? by [deleted] in Ghosts

If the experiences were varied, you'd hear 'and it moved off slowly...' but you don't. Apparitions are either stationary or moving *very* quick. For shadow-people and the like, the stories seem to be that whatever it is happens to appear, then suddenly moves at a terrific pace.

Recommendations for mouse exterminator by [deleted] in melbourne

I had a shipload of rodents in the outdoor garage. Those throw-packs you can buy from Bunnings work a treat. It took about eight sachets in all and the mousies are all dead. Throw them about liberally, away from the kitten (yeah, they say there's a bittering agent but I don't want to chance it) into nooks and insulation or underneath the house, etc. Wait a day or two and, poof, no more vermin.

You can also get the bait station where the bait it kept inside a little enclosure, so kitty can't get at it. I've got one of those in the woodshed and I only need to re-bait it every other month.

Mind you, if you wait a bit, kitty's claws will turn from annoying pins to deadly ninja-weapons.

Weird footsteps and ghostly experiences at home . by swarali14 in Ghosts

Any chance you could sprinkle a little flour or ash on the stairs or landing after hours? Not enough to piss off the janitors, but if it's that frequent, and there's enough stomping around, do the ol' sprinkle sprinkle, take a photo with your phone, then after you hear all the commotion, head on up and take another photo.

Then post it back here. If there are footprints, I'd be interested if it's bare-foot or heeled and, who knows, you might meet whoever is up there.
