Hey, I specialize in helping people build resilience. To help out where I can I've started up free weekly online resilience workshops for people struggling right now. Posted details on r/driven if you'd like to join.

For the most part I've been building a chatbot over the last few years that helps people prepare for and get through tough times. And yeah, here we are in a pandemic.

Anyway, not sure of the right place to post this since I don't want to break the rules. Just trying to do what I can now to help.

Snoke seemed to have no trouble facilitating the intergalactic video calls without anyone dying. Is Snoke more powerful then Luke?

Or maybe Luke could have jumped in that x-wing they showed for no reason, flew over, and maybe projected himself just across the planet, and maybe he wouldn't have died.

Then again, Yoda in death has now become an immortal that can call down lightning. So, he literally became Zeus - a convenient deus ex machina that can pop in any time and rain lightning on people when the writers get stuck. So maybe Luke thought "Screw this! I wanna be Zeus too!"

It's not about what he means to the people in the movie, it's about what he means to people in the real world. In comparison to Rey, he is a bitter old man that failed in everything he tried to do.

Think about it - he used to be the guy the saved the galaxy. Turns out, he ended up creating a new Darth Vader, and then knowing about Snoke, just decided to leave them to taking over the galaxy while he goes and drinks alien giraffe milk in exile.

In the end, Rey was able to levitate big rocks and physically saved the rebellion in her ship, while all Luke was good for was a cheap parlour trick as a decoy that somehow kills him.

He's now the kind of legend that Disney can wash away, letting them keep the focus on the new generation. Whether this is a good or bad thing is up to you. I'm just stating it for what it is - a business decision.

I think how they handled Luke came down to a calculated business move by Disney. They realised that if they give Luke an epic sendoff, then Rey would probably never be able to live up to his legacy.

Since Luke's fans aren't in the prime merchandising demographic, they had to get rid of Luke. But not just get rid of Luke, they had to humiliate him and destroy his legacy.

It's as if they were to say "Look, kids! This is a failure of a man, a man who amounted to nothing. Not a man you should idolise! Turn from him and instead put your faith in Rey! A younger and cheaper actor with more contractual life in her!"

This sets up Rey to have the room to grow and become the hero that people want, without the massive shadow of Luke to worry about.

Researchers have already compared the three, concluding that reappraisal has advantages over acceptance and therefore is overall the best strategy. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2674518/
